I also think that CA2 will win the weekend, but i think lego can get quite close...

(my prediction before the weekend ~ posted on my blog)

CA2 ~ 7m

Lego movie ~ 5m

Also CA2 may not be number 1 next weekend.... don't forget Divergent arrives then. and then it's TASM 2.... 3 weeks of goodness :P

ok updated the top 50 all time in the second post...

the top 50 (and the top 100 on my blog) are updated slightly differently to official releases.

~ I'm adding re-releases, 3D releases and special editions to the original release and treating them as one.  hence for example I have Titanic @ 65m

I think i got this right, but this should be the all time top 10 re-releases for films released since 1977.  (i'm ignoring the numerous gone with the wind re-releases for now which i don't have data for anyway ;)

POS Re-Release Rating Distributor Open Date OW Scns Gross Lifetime Gross
1 Star Wars: Special Edition M Fox 20-Mar-97 $2.95 M - $11.33 M $29.65 M
2 Titanic 3D M Fox 5-Apr-12 $1.73 M 169 $7.36 M $65.01 M
3 The Lion King (3D) PG Walt Disney 22-Sep-11 $0.92 M 194 $4.70 M $31.81 M
4 Empire Strikes Back: Special Edition PG Fox 10-Apr-97 $1.31 M - $4.50 M $15.13 M
5 Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (3D) PG Fox 9-Feb-12 $1.59 M 186 $3.80 M $42.63 M
6 Return of the Jedi: Special Edition PG Fox 24-Apr-97 $1.14 M - $3.21 M $16.21 M

Captain America and Lego were neck and neck at my work on Thursday and Friday, but Lego blew everything away today and was huge. At 5pm it was roughly twice as much as CA2, with a 20% 3D share. We are a more family orientated site though.Captain America also falling further behind Thor 2 at my work.

i never expected CA to match Thor 2.  so appears to be targeting 6m to 7m ?  as long as it's not down at the original CA's level (4.6m) which would be a problem.

CA 2 should be on track for a total > 15m i would think if it's opening is above 6m.

As for Lego Movie... Anything think that LM could open on top ?

I've got this pegged @ 5m opening right now... but anything up to 8m is possible.

I haven't seen an animated film in a cinema since The Simpsons. I'm trying to decide between The Lego Movie and a second viewing of The Winter Soldier.

Lego is partly Australian. Let the patriotism flow through you!

Lego won Sat, but it needs to do about same # on Sunday and for CA2 to have a bigger drop in order for lego to top it for weekend

are we looking at both CA 2 and lego movie > 5m ?

Well I took my daughters out to see The Lego Movie tonight... they loved it... and so did i.  That stupid song is now stuck in my head but aptly describes the movie well... "Everything is Awesome"

Reminded a lot of the original Shrek with it's pop culture references and the like.  and the cameo's were just awesome.  so many to choose from.

9 / 10 for me. not the best film ever, but a hell a lotta fun and hilarious.

like so many have said before me, batman stole every scene he was in... well between that and the spaceman  ;)  :batey:

Also the duplo had me in stitches :P

EDIT - meant to say the cinema was about 70% full (Chermside 2D session) ~ not bad for a sunday night even if it is school holidays up here in sunny qld. (well not so sunny today given the storms ;) )
