From SD:

Universal Pictures International previewed this weekend’s record breaking number one North American release Ted in Australia and reported an excellent $2.8m ahead of the official Jul 5 launch. The R-rated comedy will arrive across the world in the coming months.

That's a massive number considering it was only Fri-Sun and most theatres only had it on 1 screen. What was the average like?

From Deadline:

But studios sources tell me that during just three days of previews in Australia its Seth MacFarlane-Mark Wahlberg comedy grossed an estimated $4.485 million at 199 locations (with only 2 day and 2 evening sessions at best).

Help Rth. Is Nikki or SD correct? For once, please let Nikki be spot on.

Nikki's on drugs Haha

no the SD quote above is just the 1st two days fr-sat in $au it should wind up about 4. for 3 days

Its the biggest preview figure ever

Previous high for previews was Shrek that did 4mil over two weeks (Fri-sun plus midweek in TAS theatres both weeks), Ted is 4.4 in just 3 days

Plus it only had 4 or 5 screenings per day on Friday and Saturday at many theatres. Although more screenings were added on Sunday. I was looking at TASM midnights at Chermside and they added an 11:55 Ted session.I wonder how close Ted and TASM will be this coming weekend. TASM will burn off some demand Mon-Wed whereas good WOM for Ted should build to a solid Thu-Sun .We shall see.

I hope they expand Cabin in the Woods but it's looking unlikely. The more I think about I really think Ted can beat TASM this weekend. The big advantage it has here is that 15 year olds can all go and see it without a guardian. This is a week where you'd love to see daily numbers for Australia.
