Rth, what impact did the Sydney Olympics have on the Australian box office? Urban Cinefile from the time suggests a 30-40% drop from normal business for that time of the year. Of course, it would also depend on the quality of films in release.

basically no major films were relased just a few targeted kids & teens, the Sep-Oct 2000 period was very flast and also saw no lift when holidays were in play

Yeah as a kid I definitely had no interest in the movies when the Olympics were on :PAny numbers for Ted/Spider for yesterday?

For it's corresponding week last year Bridesmaids made 30% of it's first full weeks gross on Monday-Wednesday. For Ted' s first full week it made 32% of it's gross on Monday-Wednesday. It's still school holidays but that is very strong. With no new competition. And nothing similar in theatres Ted may only drop 10-15% this weekend. Bridesmaids had an 11% drop on a weekend where Cars2 and KFP2 opened and Hangover 2 was still going strong.

Wow that really puts it into perspective how big this weekend is going to be for Ted.(and also how important given the opening of TDKR next weekend)
