ITALY (Botteghino): 'Inside Out 2' BREAKS opening-weekend record for Hollywood films

Milan vs inter tonight iirc, I don't care myself but a lot of people I know are hyped for it

In 2003 it was watched by over 15M people, easily beating Sanremo. The final Milan-Juve instead by 20M

But after all it's just a day so for movies it won't change much

Yesterday Milan-Inter was watched by 7.5M people on TV8, a small channel where the average audience is 500k. The number doesn't include who watched it on Prime Video and the return march will likely make even higher numbers

I also hope this helps the popularity of the channel because it's not bad, but it seems that here people find it hard to watch anything other than the first 6/7 channels on the list, will it be extreme laziness or simple habit and little desire to change?

Top three of the week:

Guardians of the Galaxy has a magnificent drop of 36% and reached 8M after just two weeks, it will be interesting to see where it will end in the all time superhero chart in the country

Mario grossed 400k, on par with last week, and the total is 19.8M

Slam Dunk instead opened with 360k euros, while Suzume ended with 640k

https://cineguru.screenweek.it/2023/05/partenza-fantastica-per-fast-x-nel-weekend-18-21-maggio-2023-38307/

This weekend we had an impressive opening of 6.3M for Fast X, but after all I knew the numbers of the last two movies weren't useful (they made 5 and 6 million), so for the final total we should look instead at Furious 6, 7 and 8 which respectively made 13M, 17M and 15M euro

Guardians had a reasonable 50% drop with 1.2M and reached 9.7M

Mario instead had a nice 30% drop with 300k euros and passed the 20M

In the end Slam Dunk reached 540k euros, it should have another week to add something

Quite a bad opening day for TLM here in Italy.

Beauty and the Beast had 1M, The Lion King 3M (a record high) and more favorable release windows.

This is opening on the verge of the "death" season for Italian cinemas, with just a few weeks to earn something before everyone rushes to the beaches.

Also, there was a lot of anticipation from the disney fandom here, so for the numbers to be this low is really worrisome.

It might end up earning less than Dumbo, and maybe even lower than 10M Euros total, which would be a straight-up flop given the strenght of the Disney live actions brand.

At the end the 2 days special event "Makoto Shinkai night" grossed 90k euros with 9k tickets sold, but I fear the total won't be added to Your Name nor The Garden of Words

I don't think the 10M are in danger, but we'll see. After a good May we are already having some impressive temperature rises, but in any case I've heard some interesting talk about encouraging going to theaters also in the summer

489K For TLM day 2 here in Italy.

Total gross so far :1.131,714 M Euros.

 Comp at day 2:

- 200k Euros VS Aladdin (ended its run with 15.5 M)

= same gross as Maleficent (ended its run with 14 M)

+ 200K  vs Dumbo (ended its run with 11M)

So far it's playing like Maleficent (obviously the admissions are way lower due to 9 years of inflaction), but I think it will not have the same legs.

My prediction: total cume in the 9-13M range, depending on the weather in the upcoming weeks.

Basically a flop.

think its fine. a bit worse than aladdin is about par expectations imo.

problematic markets for this aren't really european ones but rather asian.

The problem here is that Aladdin underperformed in Italy. It didn't play like the big remakes (BATB TLK) but rather like Maleficent.

So getting less than Aladdin and probably going even lower than Maleficent is quite problematic, in the grand scheme of things.
