So Harry Potter, Maze Runner, and Divergent are mainly for college students?

It would be inaccurate to say they're not a significant part of the audience. That's probably why the phrase YA was coined, to make teens feel good about themselves while not alienating 20-somethings.

Children's lit.  The Hobbit falls under that category as well.  Doesn't mean it's not appealing to teenagers or adults as well.  Coming of Age stories can be either.

Is TFIOS considers YA?

Actually, yes.  I was mostly being pedantic.  YA stands for "young adult" but in current practice it can cover everything from puberty to 18.  It's come to a point where formerly YA lit for the college age crowd (and even up to 30) is now called "New Adult".

The characters in YA films are typically teens. Kids start reading them at 14. College kids who spend too much time in the YA section of the library are probably still watch the Nickelodeon channel.

When I was in college Twilight and Hunger Games were just as much the rage as they were in high schools
