Clearly, there wasn't enough story here for a full-feature movie. Becomes a drag after Mara and Patel have their (stupid) first fight. Didn't help "adopted person MUST find biological parents because whatever bs reason" stories are mostly unpalatable to me.

That's why I cried 7 different times during the movie like the little bitch that I am.

 

In all seriousness I also noticed some of the problems the movie had by stretching out the story in the second half and particularly how they handled the sort of break-up with Mara's character. But the story is so powerful and both Patel and Kidman are so great it barely matters. Patel's performance is def a revelation, but I was once again amazed by how much Kidman did with so little. I can't exactly pinpoint the moment she turned around from the stone-faced Kidman of the late 00s to the great actress she always was, but the last couple of years everytime I see her even in bullshit movies like Queen of the Desert I'm so glad she's back.
