Avatree Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 @JJ-8 can I join? I have a question about the investing, so if a film has a 50M budget and you invest 100%, then you spend $50M of your money but you regain every $ that the film grosses? So the only films you should invest less than 100% in, are films you think will gross less than their production budget? Which is quite unusual for films. Even box office bombs usually have a WW gross that is higher than the production budget. Or is this domestic gross only? Quote

Even box office bombs usually have a WW gross that is higher than the production budget. Or is this domestic gross only? sure.. you are welcome to join.... you start with 80m in the bank. if you invest 100% (max 1 player can invest btw in any movie even though there may be more available), you spend 50m but you earn 100% of "domestic" box office. (we dont' include worldwide for simplicity.) so eg. you invest in "Movie x" for 100% @ 50m. you have spent 50m of your bank leaving u with 30m. movie x is release and makes : Weekend 1 = 35m so your new bank total would be 30m+35m = 65m Weekend 2 = 20m + weekly of say 10m (eg.) your new bank total would be 65m + 20m + 10m = 95m etc etc etc... If you invest 80% of 50m then you would have only spent 40m on the budget but you only 80% of the box office (domestic again) so in the example above using the same weekend 1 and 2 totals for movie x if you only invest 80% after spending => you have 80m - 40m (80% of 50m) = 40m After Weekend 1 => 40m + 80% x 35m = 40 + 28 = 68m after weekend 2 => 68m + (20m+10m) x 80% = 68 + 24 = 92m hope that makes sense. There other considerations of course including the max investments rule (you only have 300% worth of "wide" films in release at any 1 time - if you have 300 or above, then you can't invest in any further "wide" films (ie. future investments) until you return on 300% (it's a waiting game then) FYI - wide is considered to be 600 theatres for game purposes. if the film is in 2000 theatres (as per BOM) and you have 100% then it's 2000 and therefore wide and therefore counts as a wide release to you. BUT if you invested only 20% in the same film you only have 400 theatres which means it means your release isn't wide. and doesn't restrict u but u of course don't earn as much. Quote
