Star Trek opened with almost £6m, £9m would be a good target for STID. The race between it and IM3 is going to be interesting. They both made £21m, and both this time could hit £30m.

It's also the first time both of them are introducing 3D so it should be an interesting battle. May 09 was great, I think we had 3 out of the 4 weekends getting a £6m OW which was remarkably consisteny.

Wolverine, Star Trek and Angels and Demons all did around £6m but Star Trek out grossed Wolverine and Angels and Demons. I think £8-9m is a good target, not sure on Iron Man 3, I think £10m is doable. Fast and Furious 6 I think £6-7m, The Great Gatsby £2-3m, Epic £5-5.5m, The Hangover is the hardest to predict IMO but ill say £5-6m and After Earth I think £3-4m.

The Hangover 3 should do much more than £5-6m.

The Hangover 2 opened to £10.4m and ended with almost £33m. It'll definitely drop from that, but I'd be surprised if it didn't manage to get to at least £7m.

Fast Five opened to £5.3m, so yeah £6-7m sounds right for F&F6. It's going to be a big month for openers.

Lionsgate’s action-thriller debuts top with preview-boosted $3.4m (£2.2m).

Despite a somewhat soft market as a result of the good weather, Lionsgate’s Olympus Has Fallen still managed to explode into life at the UK box office, knocking Oblivionoff the top spot after just one week.

Antoine Fuqua’s action-thriller - the first of two films this year which sees the White House come under attack from terrorists - scored an excellent $3.4m (£2.2m) debut, including $992,000 (£651,079) in previews.

That marks Fuqua’s best-ever UK debut, topping the $2.9m (£1.9m) achieved by King Arthur, which is also the director’s strongest UK performer at $10.8m (£7.1m).

It’s worth noting however that based solely on its Fri-Sun figures of $2.4m (£1.6m), Olympus Has Fallen would have found itself in second place.

Also for Lionsgate, Rebellion received a limited release of 7 sites, grossing $7,259 (£4,762).

Last week’s champion Oblivion dropped 51% on its preview-boosted debut as it fell to second.

Universal’s sci-fi grossed a further $2.5m (£1.7m) to climb to $12.3m (£8.1m), which puts it around £2m behind director Joseph Kosinski’s previous feature Tron: Legacy. It still has some way to go to match Tom Cruise’s previous forays into the genre, the lowest of which is Minority Report’s $31.5m (£20.7m) haul.

Also for Universal, Promised Land debuted with $79,000 (£52,000), resulting in a weak $594 (£390) site average.

Dropping two places to fourth was Fox’s The Croods, which added $1m (£676,019) for an excellent $36.2m (£23.7m) to date.

The 3D animation is now ahead of Shark Tale’s $35.1m (£23.1m) UK haul in terms of original DreamWorks Animation features.

Also for Fox, Trance is up to $6.6m (£4.4m) after four weeks in play.

Arrow’s Love Is All You Need recorded a healthy non-final debut of $308,000 (£202,176) from its 134 sites, including $6,611 (£4,339) in previews.

That result means it’s already director Susanne Bier’s best-ever UK performer, although it’s worth noting that Bier’s previous widest release was 70 for Things We Lost In The Fire.

Paramount’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation is up to $11.1m (£7.3m) following a $291,000 (£191,201) weekend.

For Disney, Oz the Great and Powerful added $209,000 (£137,363) for $22.7m (£14.9m) to date, while The Odd Life of Timothy Green is up to $1.4m (£925,532).

Wreck-It Ralph has grossed a superb $35.7m (£23.4m).

Didn't expect Olympus to get the number 1 spot this week. Decent opening for it. The Croods has passed WIR as biggest animated movie so far this year. Both did very well, though.

I'm not feeling the hype for Iron Man this time around..it will still have a great opening though

Think the competition from Star Trek and FF6 will hurt its legs.

Surprised Olympus did so well and at Oblivion's big drop. Nothing to look forward to for a while now....oh wait, IM3 this Thursday! 4-day OW should be over £10M for sure.

If you compare it to its Friday-Sunday, then the drop for Oblvion is only 50% normal for big films. Edited by Jonwo

Advance sales for Man of Steel have already started with ODEON. That has big potential, too.

Difficult one to predict, I'm low balling at £5m OW but it could be higher, clearly there is a lot of confidence if they are doing pre bookings already.

Ahh fair enough. I'm booking my tickets for a 3D show on thursday that morning, going to set my back £17 for 2 student tickets for me and my girlfriend. Odeon are beyond rediculous!

They really are, and they raise prices so often too. Not once a year, but a few.

Is that an Xtreme screening? Are they worth the extra?

They are pretty damn good. Used the Xtreme screens at Westfield a fair few times and they are massive. Great sound too. IMAX-lite basically. Worth it for blockbusters like IM3.
