Close battle between local comedy The Jungle and Playing for Keeps with both around $1.2m. Deadfall finished third with around $1m. Niko 2 grossed around $0.65m. Hope Springs bombed with just 0.24m. Worst weekend of the year.

It's a sign, Russians are waiting for The Hobbit :P

No, actual screen count might be available only on Wednesday or Thursday. And by the way it's rather cold now in Russia.-12...-14°С in Moscow and up to - 40°С in some big cities. In other news friends from filmpro made their prediction for all 2013 main releases. Overall, the year doesnt look that strong. In 2012 we have 6 movies with more than 1 billion RUB total. John Carter came very close to that mark. It would be really hard to match that in 2013. No strong animation sequels or action blockbusters...

2013 will be a weak year for international box office. Dont see it can tops 2012.

You say that but I like what is expected in 2013. Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, The Hobbit 2, Thor 2, Kick Ass 2, Hunger Games Catching Fire and so on..Good potential here :)

You got 5 600M+ OS movies in 2012.

Those you listed only 3 can make 600M+.

That's how 2013 will be weak.

I don't think 2013 will be weak, some surprises can be there. Nobody expected The Avengers that high, same thing for Skyfall.

Too soon to judge.

The number of movies over $600m is meaningless, it's all about the total. There could be enough mid-range hits to make up the difference.

2012 is a monster year for international box offce:

800M+: 2 Current record: 2011 [2]

700M+: 4 Current record: 2011 [3]

600M+: 5 Current record: 2009 [4]

500M+: 7 Current record: 2010 [5]

400M+: 10 Current record: 2011 [8]

300M+: 12 Current record: 2011 [13]

200M+: 26 Current record: 2011/2010 [19]

100M+: 43 Current record: 2010 [41]

2013 wont top 2012.

In 2011 people thought 2012 would be weak : no Transformers, no Harry Potter, no POTC.

I'm convinced 2013 will be a good year :)

Nah, I always thought 2012 would be bigger than 2011. We got (and I thought) easily TA, IA4 (>POTC4), TDKR (>TF3), BD2, TH (>DH2) after all.

Most of people expected Avengers under $1B.In Russia I'm not worried given the growth of the market that will be interesting!My forecasts :Iron Man 3 : 35mMonsters University : 40mMan of Steel : 25mThe Hobbit 2 : 75mCatching Fire : 25mVery Bad Trip 3 : 28mStar Trek ID : 25mThor 2 : 35mKick Ass 2 : 10m
