el sid
Not that bad for two of the newcomers - Nerve and DB :). Nerve had 179.496 admissions (actuals). The rest: Conni 30/325 Now You See Me 2: 25/230 Pete's Dragon: 25/160 Schweinskopf: 22.5/410 - fine considering the circumstances Mechanic 2: 20/170 Dragonball Z had also 20k visitors (in over 100 theaters this weekend but often only one show/weekend). Reviews from critics are mixed, user reviews are pretty ok. For filmfans this should be music to their ears: Weather-wise it's predicted to be sunny till Thursday and then the temperatures are said to halve themselves. I'm positively shocked be the low PTA for openers Männertag (ok it is an extremely stupid comedy but usually that's what the Germans dig) and The Light Between Oceans (stellar reviews and a bestseller - how could this do so bad?!). Next weekend: A lot of openers but very little with mass appeal - The Purge: Election Year should have no trouble becoming #1 for the weekend. Karoline Herfurth's directorial debut, SMS für dich, might actually have a good opening thanks to little competition in the romcom market. And Fatih Akin's Tschick is of course the critic's champion and gets a wide opening but I would be surprised if it can do more than 50k admissions. And with rainy weather on the horizon, we might see a poweful rebound for family stuff! (I hope …)

Aristis
<50k admissions would be very disappointing for Tschick... I'm not interested in that movie - but shouldn't many be? It's a big book

I'm not interested in that movie - but shouldn't many be? It's a big book That one's really hard to predict - Fatih Akin hasn't delivered a blockbuster yet (not even close) but Soul Kitchen had a very nice opening and >1mil total admissions so there's a definite potential, plus the book is a real bestseller (>1mil books sold in Germany, good number however twisted those charts are). But I got a bit cautious after this week's result for "The Light Between Oceans" - bookreaders are a much different crowd from moviegoers ... I have some doubts if what pleases readers translates that well to weekend business. Despite the wide opening I see this rather as an arthouse release, with not that big an opening but good legs for a long run. Of course I'll be overjoyed if this comes in near 100k admissions or even higher, but then, I'd have pegged TLBO at 50k, too ...

Romcom SMS für dich was a bit disappointing, especially the low PTA doesn't give any hope for the coming weeks. Tschick had a very good opening (imho) and should get past 1mil total from this start! Among family stuff, it's notable how once more Ice Age 5 hat the best hold (resp. increase); it really had a poor start but one can't fault its legs, if not for Dory opening, it might still reach 3mil total. Schweinskopf al dente had the best increase among non-family stuff; it's not yet locked but with the usually good legs of the series it should be able to surpass the 570k total of ist predecessor in the series. Btw, in Austria, the Top 4 were holdovers Nerve, Pets, Mike&Dave and DB, while neither PurgeEY nor SMS für dich managed to move any crowds to theaters. Next weekend: Bad Moms, The Magnificent Seven and Snowden are the more interesting openers - I'd say the raunchy comedy should take the lead even if last week's Männertag was a complete disaster. The western is a tough sell, if it comes near 200k admissions I'd consider it a real success.

el sid
Again the whole day was sunny but don't be depressed ;) - it's now with significant lower temperatures and so no problem. These are the Thursday estimates via insidekino.de (forum): New releases: The Magnificent Seven (ok to good reviews; starts in 508 theaters; had no previews): 29k Bad Moms (ok to good reviews; 460 theaters): 27k Snowden (partly mediocre and partly very good reviews; 283 theaters): 9k Holdovers: Purge 3: 10.5k (last Thursday 30k, not a good hold) SMS: 16k (17.5k, a very good hold) Tschick: 9k (10k, also a very good hold) Nerve: 6.5k (13k) DB: 5k (10.5) SS: 3.5k (7.5) So I would say not bad for the new releases and Bad Moms should win the weekend. Aristis
2nd Trend: Bad Moms 260k Magnificent Seven 140k SMS 140k (-20%/-34%) Purge 120k (-45%/-48%) Snowden 90k Nerve 90k (-43%) Tschick 90k (-27%) Don't Breathe 65k (-38%) Pets 45k (-66%) Suicide Squad 32,5k (-56%) Many movies are down, only Bad Moms and The Purge increased. Weather is great, so that was expectable. It's obvious now that Pets won't pass Zoo, with Dory arriving next week it could fall hard again. It could end near 3.6M - with bad weather in the next weeks it could top that by far though. Suicide Squad will have passed BvS by Sunday (1.535M). InsideKino predicts 750k for the first weekend and more than 4M in total now, one week before the release of Dory. Weather doesn't seem to be that bad (about 20°, probably without rain) but without real competition for a few weeks it should at least do OK. I can't imagine Dory to have any trouble becoming the third Billionaire this year. Edited September 24, 2016 by Aristis
IndustriousAngel
Preliminary numbers are worse than estimates (once more) ... another "might-have" weekend which ends up behind hopes (and last year's of course). There's still some buns in the oven but I fear this won't be a pretty year.
