Among holdovers, let's say goodbye to Pirates of the Caribbean 5 - probably the last weekend in the Top 20, very nice run indeed after the lukewarm opening weekend (577k admissions). Next weekend: Two interesting new A releases. Despite the Berlin setting, I don't see that much potential for Atomic Blonde - as a comparison, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. didn't reach 100k OW. So, let's set 100k as a bar for success! As to Annabelle 2, the first one had excellent WOM and a stellar multiplier (for a horror release), so this one comes with some hopes and might land somewhere around 200k with no competition. The weekend shouldn't become too sunny so I'm hoping for some recoveries across the chart! el sid
Some Thursday estimates from insidekino.de/forum: New Releases: Atomic Blonde: 13.5k (530 theaters, mixed reviews between 4 and 10/10) – could be better, I thought it would have an easier life than The Man from U.N.C.L.E. due to Charlize Theron but if this number holds obviously not Happy Family: ?k (a German animation film, 410, reviews: two good, two bad) Annabelle 2: 25.5k (310, also mixed reviews between 2 and 7.5/10 but overall they're pretty good, the first one had 103.426 admissions OW) – not too bad but I don't know how frontloaded it is Tulpenfieber: 5k (198, ok reviews) Hampstead Park: 2k (110, mediocre reviews) Terminator 2 3D starts here in 436 theaters August the 29th, excellent reviews. But I hope it's not true that the film gets only one showing/week as it looks by now e.g. in mathäser. Some theaters say maybe the movie will get more showtimes so we will see. Holdovers: Bullyparade: 43.5k (100k last Thursday) Apes 3: 4.5k (15k) The Dark Tower: 5k (13k) Grießnockerlaffäre: 4.5k (10k) Dunkirk: 3.5k Valerian: 3k Everything very muted so far. The South-West-reports showed Annabelle even more in front of Atomic Blonde, there Annabelle 2 had 3x more admissions. The weather in Bavaria was still sunny and warm today and the weekend is also predicted to be sunny in the South but worse in the rest of the country.
IndustriousAngel
well that's a shitty Thursday for sure ... let's see how business picks up over the weekend. Definitely nothing with a rush factor except (slightly) Annabelle
George Parr
First trend is up at insidekino: #1 Bullyparade 275k (-43%) #2 Anabelle 2 160k #3 Atomic Blonde 125k #4 Happy Family 75k #5 DM3 60k (-44%) Doesn't look too impressive. The holdovers are once again rather weak, while the openings are decent at best.

el sid
Some Thursday actuals (source Blickpunkt:FIlm): New Releases: Annabelle 2: 30k - no bad number at all under the circumstances Atomic Blonde: 17k Happy Family: 12k Tulpenfieber: 7k -> 40k OW expected in the first trend Hampstead Park: 3k -> 25k OW predicted - so both small releases start a little bit over the expectations Holdovers: Bullyparade: 47k (100k last Thursday) Apes 3: 7.5k (15k)
IndustriousAngel
MarkG obviously counts on worse weather Fri-Sun else those WE estimates would be bold indeed after such a lame Thu.
IndustriousAngel
well, as feared WE estimates go down ... ugly weekend
IndustriousAngel
and final estimates a bit lower again, this time it's Annabelle2 - down to 130k, that's still a 25% increase from the original Annabelle - but considering that it's got nearly twice as many theaters and should be more frontloaded, this is a rather lackluster number. George Parr
Not much change in the weekend estimates. Bullyparade (250k), Annabelle 2 (130k) and Atomic Blonde (110k) stay the same, Happy Family (72.5k) and DM3 (52.5k) are slightly up. At least Germany wasn't the only country with a weak weekend. The USA saw terrible numbers due to a whole bunch of factors (weak holdovers, weak starters, big boxing fight and a Hurricane). In fact, as BOM reports it has been the worst weekend in 15 years! Next weekend: The Hitman's Bodyguard, The Comedian … domestic drama Jugend ohne Gott … really nothing here to be overly optimistic, Bullyparade should stay on top (and safely, too). Another disappointing weekend coming up, but with temperatures taking a dive, at least there should be some better holds.
el sid
Some Thursday estimates from insidekino.de/forum: New releases: The Hitman's Bodyguard: 13k (released in 444 theaters, very mixed reviews between 2 and 9/10) – this number does not look too good but I hope for good WOM Jugend ohne Gott: 7k (300, mixed reviews between 4 and 7.5/10) - if true Oh my! Magical Mystery: 2k (110, good reviews) The Limehouse Golem: 1k (123, overall ok reviews, looks interesting to me by the way)Terminator 2 3D started here in 436 theaters on Tuesday (but often or always(?) with only one showtime) and got great reviews (the film itself and also the conversion). It had nice 21.5k admissions (insidekino.de). But despite that, the movie gets almost no further theaters and showtimes this weekend. In my view the Tuesday start made not much sense. Most fans would have prefered a weekend showing and are now upset and complaining. Indeed a strange scheduling and very disappointing! Holdovers: Bullyparade: 31.5k (actuals last Thursday 47k) - not bad Annabelle: 13k (30k) – I don't believe this number, it looked much better for the film judging from reservations and in the South-West-report (ok, still school holidays there but in this report Annabelle 2 was close behind Bullyparade and not much under the numbers from last Thursday) Atomic Blonde: 6.5k (17k) – was underestimated last week, hopefully will go up in actuals again Grießnockerlaffäre: 7.5k - nice number It was pretty rainy everywhere today; in Bavaria e.g. almost the whole day. And the weekend weather is also predicted to be mixed at best. Fortunately for the films exactly in the states which still have school holiday it's said to stay cloudy and rainy .

Aristis
Great weather here in Palatinate. Luckily it seems to be worse in other parts of Germany Bullyparade and Valerian both passed 1M on Wednesday! Both do fine. It would be great if BATB could top FSOG2, there is 37k admissions missing and BATB added 13k in 7 days (but with less Open Airs it'll probably drop harsh...)
