The Fall Guy won the weekend but stayed a bit behind my (already low) expectations. PTAs were horrible across the whole chart … at least, Challengers had a slight increase, sleeper potential? In Austria, a similar weekend once more: Fall Guy a bit higher (23k total adm.), SW:Ep1 exactly on German level and, surprisingly, Chantal on #2 with nearly 10.800 admissions, so at least two in the 5-digit-range. Chantal is now at 220k total, not far behind Germany's total which is rare for northern-German comedies (but the FJG-movies were already pretty good in that respect, too) Next weekend: The 4th of the new Planet of the Apes movies will not set the BO on fire … a 250k OW would be fine I guess. And the (I think) 3rd Garfield movie is opening; the character is still popular but with weather turning sunnier once more, a big OW seems impossible, too - however we might see a close run for #1. 2 1

Planet of the Apes 4 was the strong Father's Day movie ... for a normal Thursday, it would have been a good number but MarkG from insidekino.de mentioned that Thursday might indeed have been the strongest day of the weekend this year. His weekend estimates: #1: Garfield3 - 217k admissions (don't know about previews) #2: PotA4 - 200k (incl. previews) - that's worse than I feared #3: FallGuy - 90k (-25%, decent hold ... actually, surprisingly strong hold against two popular openers)

No, because the posted admission numbers are already including the previews :(. So both new movies start below expectations and have to develop nice legs. The next week/weekend will be crucial (if the weather indeed becomes worse).

leoh
Disney is estimating Planet of Apes to make 2.2 million opening in Germany. I mean, this looks quite impossible given that current estimates from today sees it accumulating only 160k tickets sold by Sunday. https://deadline.com/2024/05/kingdom-of-the-planet-of-the-apes-fall-guy-if-global-international-box-office-1235912415/ Edited May 12 by leoh

The franchise was never that popular in Germany (the 2011 and 2014 releases topped out at >1mil, the 3rd one didn't reach 800k) but this will mark the lowest mark yet. In Austria, very similar numbers, with Apes opening even lower. Next weekend: Weather will be rainy in wide parts of Austria and Germany, so a much better weekend (hopefully). Sadly, there are no big openers, maybe IF can get some attention but awareness seems low and presales even lower. Tarot and Nightwatch 2 might catch some horror fans which go underserved atm (but the original Nightwatch was from the 90s so I'm not sure anyone from the target demo remembers it at all …) 1
