I assumed this was like box office by Sunday, so including the weekdays box office. But I’m not sure.

No, no typo. It's a bit complicated ;). Garfield had 206k admissions over 5 days last week (it was released on Wednesday here). It had "only" 151k admissions from Friday to Sunday last week.

The posted chart were predictions made till Wednesday and till then the weather was projected to become worse than it actually is and probably therefore Mark_G thought Garfield would increase by 50% compared to its last weekend 3-day result (150k x 1.5).

At least that's how I would interpret it.

The Sunday trend - I almost don't want to post it:

#1 Garfield 110k

#2 Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes 102.5k

#3 IF 90k

#4 The Fall Guy 75k

#5 Tarot 45k - given the circumstances, not even that bad

#6 Chantal 40k

#7 Challengers 27.5k

It's not even that sunny where I live (but probably in other regions) but tomorrow is a legal holiday in Germany and therefore today is a good day for longer trips, to go out for a meal etc. What may help the theaters in other countries can cause the opposite here.

Plus the Pentecost holiday start(ed), e.g. in Bavaria which means also the vacation trips.

Now next weekend is predicted to become worse weather-wise but they said the same last week.

With worse weather, a better weekend (but still far from good) … both openers in the expected range, and decent drops (from low heights) - the nicest bit of news was that The Fall Guy had a slight increase, so definitely some WOM there. 1mil total is impossible but a decent finish around 700k seems doable.

In Austria, similar but overall better numbers, especially Garfield is doing ok (already 65k total); Tarot was also higher, >9k total after Sunday.

Next weekend: Furiosa will be the big opener. Fury Road made a lot of noise back in 2015 - a lot of  headlines and awards and stellar reviews - but in actual numbers, it got little love with only 850k admissions total in the end. I'm not sure if Furiosa will do much better, the target demo seems narrow; however, it should open to #1 with a safe lead. With weather on the rainy side all through the weekend, maybe a 250k OW is possible.

edit: Just looked at the presales for Furiosa at my cinema for today's OD and it's looking horrible ... despite having the biggest screens. While it should be #1 today, that doesn't bode well for the weekend - hope it's selling better elsewhere.

Early weekend estimates for Germany from insidekino.de and it looks like Furioso is indeed "underperforming":

#1: Garfield - 125k (-5%)

#2: Furiosa - 120k - ouch, that's half of what I expected

#3: IF - 77,5k (-19%)

#4: PotA 4 - 70k (-37%)

#5: FallGuy - 55k (-31%)

Yes, that's only a bit more than the half of what was expected for Furiosa.

But nice for the two family films :). With these admission numbers from the first trend of insidekino.de...

- Garfield would have 567.5k total admissions including Sunday

- IF 242.5k

- Planet of the Apes 415k

- The Fall Guy 477.5k.

while this might seem "nice" in the context of Germany's depressed market, Austria's total was already at 65k last Sunday, so it had more admissions in 2 weeks than Germany will have in three. Let's face it - even Garfield's number is a disappointment.

The second trend from insidekino.de - slightly worse for most films but also some increases:

#1 Garfield 115k

#2 Furiosa 110k

#3 IF 75k

#4 Planet of the Apes 70k

#5 The Fall Guy 60k

#6 Chantal 37.5k

#7 Tarot - 35k

#8 Challengers 25k

The Monday update from insidekino.de - even worse:

#1 Garfield 100k/542.5k total admissions

#2 Furiosa 100k

#3 IF 65k/230k

#4 Planet of the Apes 62.5k/407.5k

#5 The Fall Guy 47.5k/470k

#6 Chantal 32.5k/2.550M

#7 Tarot 30k/95k

The good news is, the weather in the next few days (starting tomorrow and the whole weekend) is so far predicted to become really bad almost everywhere in Germany. This weekend it was still mixed to good. If that doesn't help I'm at a loss.

Wow, just wow - not a single release in the 6-digit range. Wow. I guess this thread will get locked in the forseeable future thanks to neglectable numbers … Furiosa with less than half of what I expected and even Garfield will be struggling to reach 1mil total.

In Austria, numbers were a bit better - Garfield at 83k now, should reach 150k total, and Furiosa opened a bit higher with a bit over 14k after Sunday. Kung Fu Panda 4 crossed 250k total this weekend, nice!

Next weekend: Not a single big release. Be afraid, Boxoffice. Be very afraid.

Forecast for June is in from insidekino: 1.19m admits for Bad Boys and 2.52m admits for Inside Out 2.

The bad Boys number is strong but I feel if Inside out can't pass 3m it's kind of disappointing
