Blue Beetle remaining the leader on thursday despite Gran Turismo's release is very, very surprising. The brazilian documentary Pictures of Ghosts made a debut at 10th, excelent for this kind of film.

920k tickets were sold during the weekend, and R$20M on the box office, down 25% over last weekend.

Blue Beetle and Talk to Me saw great holds for their second weekends, helped by strong WoM. BB is already above the total final of Shazam 2 (R$17M) and second weekend was also better than The Flash in both hold and gross (The Flash did R$5.6M on the second weekend, though the total was at R$26M up to that point), if it manages to keep up with those holds beating the total of The Flash is actually very possible. Gran Turismo had a weak start despite releasing in 1000+ screens and having the biggest rollout of all the movies. Barbie is closing the 11M admissions and Oppenheimer the 3M.

Next weekend have the full release of TMNT and also Golda, Cobweb, Angela, O Porteiro, TPM Meu Amor and The Choosen.

September started with the wrong foot as this was the third worst weekend of the year, losing only to Carnaval's weekend and the weekend after that. Only 852.6k tickets were sold.

Blue Beetle remains holding strong, it have passed The Suicide Squad and by next weekend it should pass Birds of Prey too, with a good chance to pass The Flash and WW84 despite opening bellow most of these. TMNT opened slow but at least is in a better place than Gran Turismo. Opening was bellow Out of the Shadows' R$5.9M.

The Chosen also opened strong despite the very limited release, Brazil is now the top overseas territory.

Another important point this weekend was O Porteiro, despite opening in 500 screens it sold only 20k tickets, only 38 people for screen and missed the top 10. Is the second massive bomb in a row of a brazilian blockbuster after Tempos de Barbarie and this set another round of discussions in a very delicate moment were the return of screen quote is currently being discussed by the senate.

Next weekend could change things since we will have have the Independence Day on thursday and The Nun 2 releasing on wednesday looking like it will overperform. It will also release Angela, My Fairy Troublemaker and After - Everything.

This holiday weekend saw 1.72M admissions and R$37.2%, an 99% increase over last weekend, ending the down trend from last month.

The Nun 2 showed more strength on the holiday than  the weekend, still it managed to have the 2nd best opening for a horror movie of all time, losing to no other than the first movie. This weekend was kind to Blue Beetle and TMNT that both increased. Blue Beetle by the way have passed Birds of Prey, will pass WW84 today and tomorrow or wednesday should pass The Flash. Best legs for a DC movie in a while. TMNT on the other hand could also pass Out of the Shadows' R$18M total despite also opening bellow it. Finally, Barbie passed R$210M and we will see what effect the Imax screens could give it to it.

Next weekend releases Haunting on Venice, The Dive, After: Everything (That got delayed from last weekend), Strange Way of Life and the re-release of Oldboy.

No surprise there, Kleber Mendonça Filho's  Retratos Fantasmas (Pictures of Ghosts) has been chosen as the movie to represent Brazil on the next Oscar. It will also try a spot for best documentary. The movie has not charted on the weekends' top 10, however it is doing steady and have made 45k admissions, very good for a documentary. It released in Cannes and will release in North American theaters next month.

Things went back down, but even with that, Nun 2 became the top horror of 2023 and Blue Beetle passed Birds of Prey, WW84 and The Flash's box office (On the admissions, it still have to pass the first two but it should do it too). Next on the list is the first Shazam with R$47M, that one I don't know if it still have tank left to pass.

Haunting in Venice opened slightly above Death on the Nile (R$2.29M) and a little more than half of Murder on the Orient Express (R$4.8M). Barbie left the top 10 for the first time.

Thanks to the Barbenheimer we have a new best month of the year and just so a new leader. August 2022 was the second worst month from that year, with the holdovers this month shouldn't have trouble passing that either.

The four movies, in order, for month of august was Barbie, Oppenheimer, Meg 2 and Blue Beetle, a pretty good month that managed to avoid the usual big drop from july, but september on the other hand might need some steam or it will be the worst month of the year, unless some big overperformers come these last two weekends.

Less than 1 day for the release of Sound of Freedom and pre-sales remained slow slow. It will most likely do decent numbers indeed, but if you ask me, I don't believe this one will break out in Brazil despite all of the efforts. Maybe WoM and walk-ins will be stronger.

Saw X will start with advanced screening beginning next weekend. Now THAT one looks like a break out.

There is WAY too many movies releasing on the 21th and on 28th. I bet one of these two weeks will be the next Cinema Week. For Sound of Freedom will probably benefit more of it was on the 28th instead of the launch weekend.

Told ya. The 3rd Cinema Week have been announced to be happening between september 28th and october 4th. This time tickets for all movies will cost R$12 with food combos also going down in price. Last Cinema Week had 3.7M tickets sold.
