Brazil Box Office Thread

Recommended Posts

The general director from Cinepolis Brazil reported that the expectations for 2024's box office is to be down 6% when compared to 2023, reasons for that is pessimism over Hollywood's movies next year and the difficult to reduce ticket prices due to the current situation. He noted that the strong lineup of brazilian movies could help avoid that. He also estimated that audience numbers should only recover to pre-pandemic levels by 2026.

This month have pushed 2023 above R$2B, but also saw the worst month of the year, despite the results of Hunger Games, Trolls 3 and FNAF. Part of it can be blamed of some that failed to deliver like The Marvels and Mussum, also for not having a super major hit like Wakanda Forever last year.

Outstanding hold for the second weekend of Napoleon and also for Hunger Games. Both repeated last weekend's dance with Napoleon winning on the box office and Hunger Games winning on admissions. We also saw the first time in 23 years a Digimon movie released in theaters, managing to crack the top 10.

Big weekend coming up next with Wonka, Thanksgiving, Silent Night, O Sequestro do Voo 375, Maestro, Journey to Bethlehem and Rosa de Saron in Concert

10 As Aventuras de Poliana 289.000 -62.8% 1.390.000 15.000 78.910

R$21.7M and 987k on admissions were made this weekend, an increase of 30% from last weekend, ending the down trend from past weekends.

Pretty good start for Wonka and anticipating the trend from the next few weeks of above usual legs and above usual multipliers now that school break have started in most of the country. Expect the weekdays to get a bit stronger too. Despite everything, 2023 was a good year for Warner in Brazil since from their 13 releases so far 6 released at 1st place (And Aquaman 2 will be no. 7).

Napoleon and Hunger Games kept the strong legs and still managed to be really close to each other. Thanksgiving completely wiped All Fun and Games from the ranking.

Next weekend will release Godzilla Minus One, Haunting of Queen Mary, The Mean One, Tá Escrito, Uma Carta Para o Papai Noel, Nutcracker and the Magic Flute and the Seventeen Tour (on saturday).

Weak start for Aquaman's pre sales. Better than The Marvels but similar to Blue Beetle (remider that BB was saved by outstanding WoM in the region).

I read somewhere that Beyonce has already sold 90k tickets. Can you confirm this?

I've heard about the movie selling 50k tickets on the first week of pre-sales, however I only saw this being reported in one place and it was a fan page, so unfortunately I cannot confirm how accurate that is.

Since last time I checked, pre-sales for sure have improved a lot. Still not the level you would want for DC/Marvel but absolutely selling faster than Blue Beetle and Marvels at that point. Right now I will say the movie for sure won't be the massive hit the first one was but it should make some good money.

785k tickets were sold and R$17M on the box office, down 22% over the last weekend.

Amazing hold for Wonka, helped by really strong WoM, it managed to pass 1 million admissions already. Godzilla Minus One had one of the best openings for a Sato Co. movie.

Hunger Games have passed the admissions of the first movie (It passed the box office a while ago).

Voo 375 is already the 4th best selling local movie of the year, meanwhile Tá Escrito bombed really hard, pushing an average of only 4 people for screening! Maybe now they will finally stop giving movies for youtubers...nah who am I kidding, Lucas Netto and Gato Galactico both have movies for 2024's first months...

Next weekend releases Aquaman 2, Renaissance, The Quiet Girl, The Three Musketeers: Milady and Propriedade.

AQUAMAN: THE LOST KINGDOM, NATAL T-1

T-1 Cinemark: 18 showings, 5274 seats, 226 sold (4.29%)

T-1 Cinepolis: 13 showings, 1796 seats, 11 sold (0.61%)

T-1 Moviecom: 5 showings, 812 seats, 73 sold (8.99%)

T-1 Cineflix: 9 showings, 2330 seat, 259 sold (11.12%)

T-1 Total: 45 showings, 10212 seats, 569 sold (5.53%)

Comps:

Flash - 123.43%(R$2.65M)

GotG 3 - 110.27% (R$3.31M)

Blue Beetle - 338.69% (R$7.11M)

Marvels - 278.92% (R$5.3M)

Hunger Games - 47.3% (2.41M)

...............huh.............

Remember when I said pre-sales where improving? So, Aquaman 2's pre-sales in my city ended up better than Flash and even Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and sooooo much better than Blue Beetle and Marvels. I dunno man...I am kinda scratching my head right now, that is probably the best last minute push I've seen from a movie since I started tracking. Pre-sales of this movie is a bomb everywhere, so there Brazil comes to be once more the bipolar kid in class lol

About my predictions...The first one did R$3M on pre-release, I REALLY don't want to bet on this doing equal of that, so my bet is around R$2M-2.5M and I wash my hands and wait to see how this plays out.

I was trying to be realistic with my prediction but holy crap that fell off the ground. Aquaman 2 made R$3.7M and 180k admissions on pre-sales, that was the best start for a comic book movie in 2023, above the first movie, GotG 3 and almost double of The Marvels.

That however, could not translate to a record opening because sunday is christmas eve, usually that date is very weak for cinemas.
