Carlangonz
FEBRUARY 23-25 WEEKEND. PANTHER HOLDS LIKE A REAL KING; 4TH BEST 2ND WEEKEND FOR A MCU TITLE. NEW OPENERS DO FINE. Black Panther - Amazing drop. 4th best 2nd weekend for a MCU title only behind Avengers, Civil War and Iron Man 3, also, the best drop for a MCU title since... TWS, that increases its chances to beat SM:HC and closer shot to cross $500M, i think we're finding a new MCU face in here. - After 10 days of release is already 9th biggest MCU movie, soon will surpass TWS and GOTG 2. Next weekend should be ahead of Thor: Ragnarok and then we'll see it dispute #5 with SM:HC - Unless an unexpected hit happens, we can lock it to be in Top 5 of 2018 along with IW, JW2, I2 and another film (Grinch? HT3? DP2?)La Boda de Valentina - #13 among all-time locals. Should move to Top 10 soon as #10... and that's it for the movie. - The surprise about this is not exactly this movie itself but how local movies are having a big time so far in 2018. Barely two months and we already have three $100M+ grossers when last year we had four... for the entire year! # MOVIE WEEKEND % CHANGE TOTAL (MXN) TOTAL (USD) ADM. Purple Minion
Black Panther total $22.0M. Probably crossed the 400M lc threshold, only the 6th MCU movie to do so. I could have already passed Thor 3, but it's miles away from IM3.

Carlangonz
MARCH 02-04 WEEKEND. BLACK PANTHER CONTINUES SMASHING EVERYTHING. Black Panther - Another weekend, another incredible hold for the movie. This time became 2nd best 3rd weekend for a MCU movie only behind Avengers. - Already beat The Winter Soldier, Guardians if the Galaxy 2, Deadpool and Thor: Ragnarok. This week passes Wonder Woman's $414M - Surpassing SM:HC as 5th highest MCU grossing movie is almost a lock. $500M are doable depending on competition, soon is going to lose screens when Lara Croft opens on March 16 and then is going to lose audiences when Pacific Rim 2 (boosted by "From Academy Award Producer Guillermo Del Toro") opens on March 22.Red Sparrow - Expected result, 31% over Atomic Blonde. Tremendous performance, definitely last months have been insane with leggy movies like Coco, Wonder, Showman, Jumanji, Shape of Water and Black Panther. From next week and until May 13th will be a bloodbath in BO. Legs could still be strong and a IW trailer coming may help just like it did with Ragnarok, but the problem are screens and shows, through next three weeks will face nine wide releases, so won't hold enough. Carlangonz
MARCH 09-11 WEEKEND. PANTHER KINGDOM REIGNS FOR FOURTH WEEKEND IN A ROW Black Panther - First movie to stay on top of the chart for an entire month since Annabelle: Creation. The third in the last three years along with Creation and Furious 7. Second MCU title to do so only after Avengers and third among SH movies after Spider-Man (which stayed 5 weeks back in 2002) and Avengers (which lost the 5th weekend against Men in Black 3). - Still playing at 1,500 screens, it can leg into $500M+ but should pull an incredible PSA. Problem with its chances to cross $500M is that has wonderful holds on weekends but weekdays are bad for the movie, so that makes it unpredictable. - Next weekend is going to pass SM:HC as 5th highest MCU grosser. Right now is already the biggest Marvel hit without RDJ. Winchester - Impressive result, Corazón Films distributed it pretty well. Ahead of any comp and already beat HDD's total. - Competition will kill it soon but should come close to $60M Red Sparrow - Very good numbers on weekdays and great hold for the weekend. - Just beat Atomic Blonde and should finish with $85M-$95M The Shape of Water - Its wins at the Oscar helped it a lot, is getting close to a 4.5x multi and now is ahead of 2017 titles like Logan, Kong and TF5. One of the year's stories. # MOVIE WEEKEND % CHANGE TOTAL (MXN) TOTAL (USD) ADM. Carlangonz
Tomb Raider and Peter Rabbit are opening very close on screens and shows, both are about 1,500+, if they end up similar on numbers then TR is going to win by $ but Rabbit is winning by admissions. Black Panther is losing something like 40% of screens, will fight for third place against a new local comedy. I think BP has the force to not crumble yet, a 50%-60% would be good. If a IW trailer comes out tomorrow then weekend and next week are going to hold well, specially with holidays starting next friday. Finally, i'm curious to see what happens on March 29th weekend. Move AWiT was a bad choice, marketing is on full for RPO, while the Disney movie has a lack of advertising and seems less appealing, also Sherlock Gnomes and a local movie are opening wide, i think one of them should've been moved to April 5th lot, which is empty. The 'Coco/Shape of Water' effect. I've heard from different people that we might see a new era for local industry similar to China after Kung Fu Panda came out.
