I don't remember last years so I looked it up;

 

 

That's just how Black Americans honor the dead and act in church. It's a culture thing. Though having them sing "I'm going to Heaven" for a group of presumably mixed religious beliefs is, well, A Choice.

My favorite is the super quick montage from two years ago:

Mournful ballad, upbeat number: pffft, everyone knows the big drama of In Memoriam always ends up being over who's first/last, who got left out (actually left out vs "was in last year's montage"), and if the wrong photo got used for someone in the crafts. And then there are the classic movieheads who will go on and on about how the Oscars should just use the "TCM Remembers" montage (the clips/photos of them and their work are good, the unrelated stock footage is distracting).

 

 

 

The Women Are Talking supposed script controversy was probably never going to make a difference in voting, and has come along too late, besides...
