1. Spiderman - The first film to get 100M OW and crushing all subsequent record in the process.2. The Avengers - Come on, 207M in three days? I don't care about inflation or 3D surcharges, besides Spiderman, what could possibly beat it?3. The Passion of the Christ - In, perhaps one of the most controversal films ever, a foreign-language film about a topic that is so devisive, a hard "R" (possibly should be NC-17 for violence alone), opening on a Wednesday got 83M... in February!4. Shrek 2 - This film opened on Wednesday with 11M and Thursday had 9M, then, somehow it got 108M for the weekend... how?5. The Lion King - 2 theaters, it made $1,586,783. I don't understand how that is even possible or where those massive theaters exist to get that amount of cash, but it happened.6. The Blair Witch Project - I consider this to be the worst film ever made, but for a bunch of nobodies with a camcorder in the woods of West Virginia and spend only 60k on the film, to recoup a 250% profit on a limited release at 16 theaters for 1.5M. Not to mention its first actual "wide" release where it got 28M three weeks later.7. Borat: Cultural Learning of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakstan - It is crude, rude, and generally disgusting, but it made 28M on only 637 theaters for an average of 31k per theater, and it was rated "R". Very nice!8. Star Wars: Special Edition - This film was 20 years old. Had been released five times already in theaters, numerous times on LCD, VHS and was a fixture on television. It already garnered a massive 322M in domestic grosses. Hardley anyone over the age 5 didn't see this movie already, yet, it made 35M in January in 1997. It is still #2 for a January OW! May the Force be with you. Greatest story ever told... period!9. The Hunger Games - Did any of you guys seriously believe this would get 152M or any thing remotely close before a few weeks before release? I didn't think so.10. The Twilight Saga: New Moon - Even for the "mad dash rush, need to see it now" world we live in today, this film made more money OD than its predecessor made in its OW. Now other films have done that, TDK doubled BB, but the descrepency between NM and Twilight is that NM was only 1 year later. Hardly any time for built up anticipation with the normal 2-3 year wait process.Honorable Mentions:Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's StoneMiley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert ToureReturn of the JediFarenheit 9/11Jurassic Park: The Lost World
