JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

Sandland will definitely fall to #3 and possibly even lower by the end of today. If friday is this low weekend probably won't even be top5. I don't see any sign of a big saturday bump happening.

For a film that was given the most seats by far for today plus IMAX and Dolby shows it's a pretty terrible performance but there's really nothing to be surprised about. Anywhere you looked sales for this were just weak.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Mario will cross Toho's "Jujutsu Kaisen Movie 0" (¥13.80B) tomorrow. Finally, now out of Top 10 today. Toho's "Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine" Last Screening Date has been decided - 06.09.2023 So, Toho will be giving it's last push to overtake Mario again.

Elemental getting closer to the "weekend-heavy" movies is  encouraging

Wait, how are you seeing things that are encouraging?

I'm a little disappointed in Elemental's performance this weekend. But I guess because schools are out in Japan, it does better in the weekdays.

Per Corpse's figures from last Saturday

Quote

SATURDAY (08/12):
¥200 million ($1.4 million), -13%, ¥3.10 billion ($21.6 million) - Kingdom III: Flame of Destiny (Toho, Sony) Day 16
¥165 million ($1.1 million), +13%, ¥3.64 billion ($25.5 million) - Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 (Toho-Towa) Day 23
¥150 million ($1.0 million), +03%, ¥6.10 billion ($42.9 million) - How Do You Live? (Toho) Day 30
¥115 million ($798,000), +09%, ¥927 million ($6.4 million) - Elemental (Disney) Day 9
¥115 million ($798,000), -10%, ¥977 million ($6.8 million) - Crayon Shin-chan: Super-Powered Climactic Battle - Soaring Hand-Rolled Sushi (Toho) Day 9
¥70 million ($485,000), -43%, ¥705 million ($4.9 million) - Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (Toho-Towa) Day 9
¥60 million ($415,000), 0, ¥140 million ($1.0 million) - Barbie (Warner Bros.) Day 2

It was also 4th but way further off the other three older-skewing movies, it's substantially closed the gap over the course of a week even though Saturday should be the strongest day of the week for the other three post-Obon (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
