Fun fact for you Avatar the Last Airbender fans: That guy narrating in the beginning is Avatar Roku. :D

Hans Westerguard, what are you doing there? :o  Reminds me of how Disney used to sneak things from the First Disney Renaissance films into other First Renaissance films, and Pixar does that too.

I'm calling time portal shenanigans.

There are even more references to be found :)

Doesn't look too bad, but the animation style is too similar to other Disney cgi outings at the moment. Baymax is funny, though. Not feeling the main dude. Btw, apparently the movie was done without a script, like Iron Man 1.

Also, dat Hans

Really? Source?

I don't think Lasseter would have allowed that.

My source is a friend who visited WDAS for the screening and asked people around, it's not something that they are hiding. I don't know why they made the movie like that, though.

Uhmm, is that good or bad?

Idk, IM1 was pretty good. It doesn't say much about the final product. Edited by portgas

yeah, an animated movie without a script cant work... but he might have misunderstood that while actors do tend to adlib from time to time (maybe quite a lot in this movie) there has to be a script. Also it might be that they had to do quite a few rewrites which would mean that they did not have a finished script until well into production... Btw this was also the case with Frozen.

Disney's Pocahontas is a Mary Sue.http://unshavedmouse.wordpress.com/2013/07/11/disney-reviews-with-the-unshaved-mouse-33-pocahontas/Disney make Pocahontas perfect and without flaws which is one of the reasons I've always found her boring. Falling in love with John Smith isn't a flaw. Disney was probably scared silly of offending people by giving her faults. They did a much better job their next POC princesses Mulan and Tiana later on, who were more realistic by not being perfect in every way.Pocahontas has beautiful animation and music, but it's a shame I couldn't care less about the characters.

I don't understand how Disney went from creating the most personable, appealing and vibrant POC characters in Aladdin, Jasmine and co. to the 2D bores in Pocahontas. Political correctness gone dumb.

The actual animation process into a complete film is hugely expensive, so it done last after all the actors finish recording their lines. The actors' acting and mouth movements are filmed and used as reference by the animators. Actors just can't go off the script whenever they want.

Yup, major elements of Frozen kept being rewritten until even after recording sessions, as evidenced by the fact that Kristen and Idina had already recorded "Life's Too Short", the song that was ultimately replaced by the First Time In Forever reprise and which depicted the sisters' relationship and Elsa's character in particular, in a very different light than what was shown in the final film.

Tangled's insane 260m budget was because Disney wanted to change the whole thing half way through production which really drove up cost. Tangled was originally going to be a Shrek wannabe fairy tale. They also scrapped a ton of nearly finished animation. It should not have cost that much if they had planned it better.

Did they release their version of the song?

well... not really released, but it did leak :)

also they probably recorded huge parts of multiple versions of the script (there is even one fully voiced animatic showing evil short haired elsa :) )

Say what you will about the product we got, but a lighter and softer Pocahontas sounds even less appealing to me.

Yeah I agree. Honestly I think Pocahontas was a fucked project any way you slice it. It was just never gonna lend itself well to a Disney animated film. The same pretty much goes for Hunchback, though that one could have worked if they had fully committed to the dark tone. But I totally get why they didn't and why if they had it could have been very bad for their image.

Idk about misunderstanding, probably that's the case. But I'm sure it's possible to work with just storyboards and whatnot with a lot of dialogue improv. Edited by portgas

Anyways, I think this film is very lucky to be following Frozen's success judging by that trailer. I can't say I think it looks very appealing to kids, and not at all if we take out the Baymax humor. But Disney's momentum will almost assuredly guarantee another hit. Still if marketing doesn't improved I'll be very surprised with much more than Tangled's success.

I guess currently realistic expectations would be around WiR plus a little extra frozen boost... so yeah, Tangled would be an expected number... but if it is really good i guess it could go into DM territory :)

What are you saying? Even neutered Hunchback is better than 99% of WDAS films.
