Rsyu
Grand budapest hotel doing extremely well for a low budget "diversity film". 2 days after it's release it set the record for the fastest film to reach 20,000 admissions in korea surpassing previous record holder [like father, like son]'s record by 4days and inside lewyn davis' record by one day. It has been the #1 presale movie for two weeks with a high of an unprecedented 95.8% share. It looks to be only a matter of time before it passes [like father, like son] for highest admission diversity film title

podo
Yeah, The Grand Budapest Hotel is doing exceptionally well for an arthouse film. As a big fan of the movie, I'm just so glad. Rsyu
Are those type of movies called arthouse films? They call it 다양성 영화 and I didn't know how to translate it exactly. http://m.news.naver.com/read.nhn?mode=LSD&mid=sec&sid1=106&oid=416&aid=0000074103From this article I guessed those 2 were the highest scores but it seems like there's more that did better and yeah it's a great film so I'm happy it's doing well

Maybe "arthouse film" is not the correct term but I just thought it would fit them.
Rsyu
Frozen sets new VOD records in South Korea. Even though the theatrical run is almost at an end Frozen has managed to amass approximately $4.6M and 410,000 downloads in the two weeks since it's release. This far outstrips the original record holders for download(man on the edge-160,000) and gross(miracle in cell no.7 with $1.3M) respectively. The heaviest consumers of this product are, not surprisingly, parents with young children who use Frozen for English educational purposes. Hoping this is a step in the right direction in reducing the number of illegal downloads in Korea.

However, with unfavorable WoM and the arrival of Captain America 2, 60%+ drop could happen next week. Elegant Lies held pretty well and passed 1m admissions. A significantly weak competition for local films is clearly helping much. Non-Stop passed 2m admissions. What's really impressive is it's not that far behind highly successful Taken franchise. (Taken - 2,379,830/Taken 2 - 2,308,596) 300: Rise of an Empire faced a steep drop this weekend. The predecessor did 2,929,561 in 2007. It looks like the sequel will finish at only 60% of the first one. The Grand Budapest Hotel is another winner of this weekend. As I said in earlier post, it did exceptionally well for an arthouse film. I'm very curious to see how it will do next week. Terrible WoM led to a extremely sharp drop for Monster. It is one of the worst second weekend drops in recent box offices. 12 Years a Slave is so close to 500k admissions. I hope it gets there. Captain America: The Winter Solder opens next Wednesday. Currently it's #2 on presales chart (23.1% share) with 10,638 tickets sold. Hoping for a huge debut. Edited March 23, 2014 by podo

Rsyu
CA2 OW admissions (Wed-Sun) double or close to double TFA's entire run sounds possible? It would need a Noah-esque opening to do that and with noah only in it's second week, I'm not sure TWS OW can match that. At the moment presales are pretty close (TWS is #1 with 11,869 tickets & 26.2% share compared to noah's 24.4% share) so TWS will have to show some explosive rise in presales in the next couple of days to come anywhere near noah's OD of 177,000 admissions. Good news is it's been a while since the last HLW SH film so it should have better legs and there isn't much for competition until TASM2 gets released. I never thought CA2 would do very well in SK. Was just hoping for 15M or so, which is a great improvement over the first one. Noah is serious competition, and soon Rio 2 also, that's why I don't see CA2 doing as well as some think it will in OS markets. China seems promising though.

China seems promising though. It should gross $15m maybe up to $20M with a good OW. Noah is having mixed to bad WoM and I don't see it having great legs in korea. Other OS markets remains to be seen I guess. CA2 got a great release date in China so I can see it doing well there.
