Michael Mann's 90s filmography is a trio of excellent films. This, his third outing of that decade, is a deep and blistering drama. Though it's ostensibly about a tobacco insider and his struggle to bring his story to the world, it's really a cutting indictment about the growing corporate character of major TV news organizations. Pacino, Crowe, and Plummer are all fantastic.

The Insider is a pretty incredible film. When characters refer to themselves as heroes, it often makes this viewer cringe, but indeed, in this film, both Wigand and Bergman are absolutely heroes, in different ways. Pacino and Crowe both nail their roles entirely, both being engaging and sympathetic in the best senses. This is probably the best I've ever seen Crowe; he's unrecognizable for most of the film. The script is involving, and Mann's direction really shines. The Insider is an excellent film, and one well worth seeing.

(Not going to rate this film because my professor paused it too often.)
