Just got back from a midnight screening....

 

Man alive, the "additional scenes" are terrible. The extra stuff in Looper was pointless, but at least it didn't feel like it was cut in from a different movie. The extra stuff in IM3 is integrated about as well as the Bela Lugosi footage in Plan 9 From Outer Space. Fan Bingbing appears at the last possible minute and stops the ending dead in its tracks. On top of that, the Chinese version is missing the post-credits scene. (I guess it wasn't ready in time?) So a brief summary: the Chinese version is actually missing material from the standard international version, and the material it adds is all bullshit. Great.

 

But the rest of the movie is good! Way better than IM2. Kingsley is great and the whiny fanboys can go pound sand. The old Mandarin was just a Fu Manchu knockoff anyway. The theater was about 4/5 full, which is pretty good given that it has 377 seats (it's an IMAX screen). And the theater added a 12:15 screening at some point within the last couple of days, so that's good news too.

They were definitely into it. Lots of laughs, mainly at the physical comedy (which comes across better in China than the verbal humor). Occasional signs of female swooning for RDJ. Lots of "oohs" and "aahs" when

the "house party" arrives

. Scattered applause at the end, though the lack of a post-credits scene was severely disappointing--best reaction came from the dude in front of me, who said, in English, "this is bullshit!" But probably 4 out of 5 people left the theater during the credits anyway.

IM3 midnight incomplete data:

2366 shows 273659 admissions 11568376 yuan

complete number (more like 2500 shows, also a record) should be more than 12m. (TF3 actual below 12m adjusted close into 12m)

Bigger md could mean less muliplier.  TF3 x~9 (summer) T3D x7~ (Apr)

 

So around x8 for IM3 I think. Will see.

 

 

Firedeep is it promising for IM3's OW to reach $50m? :)
