I found this:http://cineuropa.org/nw.aspx?t=newsdetail&l=en&did=241773It makes for depressing reading, admissions up to June are just 33m, 18% down from 2012 (40.2m). If the rest of the year follows this, it won't even reach 80m.Are there any major movies like The Impossible coming along that could help the situation?

The only Spanish movie with any potential is the adaptation of the CB Zipi and Zape .

That is too pathetic.

Spain is now a C-lister market ...

Now? It has been for a long time...

However, I think the sensation is that Spain is a very poor and boring market relative to others because very few movies mark enormous numbers like happen in other similar markets, like Mexico, Brazil or South Korea, for instance.

Of course, Spain is well behind these markets. That is undoubtable. But other scales say that Spain is not so far from those exciting markets:

In 2013 so far, we have that Spain pales with number of movies over 10 million $ (8) against South Korea (21), Mexico (16) or Brazil (14). But if we look at movies over 1 million $, Spain (60 movies) is bigger than Mexico (52) and Brazil (59), and barely behind South Korea (63). And if you look at the movie which ranks 100th, Spanish one is the biggest with a high percentage of difference against the other 3 markets (304k against 235k of Brazil, 156k of Mexico and 132k of South Korea).

The economical situation is the main guilty of this crisis in grosses (beyond piracy). In 2004, 143 million admissions were sold. This year we could not reach 90. Maybe when crisis passes (if it does  ), we can see again Spanish numbers rivaling with other big markets like did not long ago.
