Nobody could have foreseen "Barbenheimer." That's a once-in-a-decade zeitgeist smash that we all live for. But what kills me is that even Stevie Wonder saw the impending failure of Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny coming and there was no reason in the world they couldn't have slotted Dead Reckoning the week after that instead. "Barb" still decimates it two weeks later. But at least it gets those premium-format screens and certainly opens where we all expected it to have. Obviously with the delay in filming thanks to the duel-strikes, no way Dead Reckoning Part Two isn't delayed to 2025. Just be smart and slot it ahead of time to July 25, 2025 (two weeks after Superman: Legacy) and lockdown those PFSs.

Or "reboot" - a term thrown around so frequently but fewer and fewer use it properly.

Fuck it. Predicting $95M for Barbie and $49M for Oppenheimer.

Oppenheimer is gonna crack $300M domestic. Nuts.

Said it before here, and I'll say it again. Dead Reckoning Part 2 is absolutely moving to summer 2025. Not only did they not complete filming but according to McQuarrie, they still hadn't figured out how exactly it was going to end. Take into account both SAG and WGA Strikes and vacating it's June '24 slot is inevitable. Especially if things aren't resolved till October. Be smart and slot it at July 25. That's two weeks after Superman: Legacy (which I don't foresee getting delayed as it's script is done and they're still moving forward for a late January start - which could get pushed to March/April, worst case scenario) and allows them to get all those premium-format screens locked down.

Normally I'd remind everyone - myself included - how Batman Begins - while a certified blockbuster at $205M - was a slow but steady commercial burn that left people starving for a sequel. But general audiences are now quite adept at the concept of reboots. Hence The Batman grosses a pretty-damn-great $370M coming off two very divise and commercially-rejected films headlined by "Batfleck." Superman: Legacy needs to be good, plain and simple. Warner Bros are still the best in the business when it comes to marketing. If Gunn gives them a commercially-viable four-quad Superman movie that people have been wanting for years, they'll work their magic. Time will tell. But me... I think this is the moment.

That certainly played a factor. But for me... not just opening a week before "Barbenheimer," but also the last-minute decision to move from a Friday opening... to a Wednesday opening... to a Tuesday opening... to an eventual Monday night caused confusion. Also not opening the week following Indy 5 (when even Stevie Wonder saw that flop coming) boggles the mind.
