It's been talked about on and off for decades. But you know... if they're ever going to do it, now is the perfect time for Warner Bros. Discovery to pull the trigger on that Goonies sequel. Ke Huy Quan is about to win an Oscar, Josh Brolin remains one of the busiest character-actors working (who I have no doubt will have an Oscar of his own within the next decade) and Sean Astin is still working well. All due respect to their co-stars, you keep those three as your carryover/legacy characters, and have new kids in the lead. Maybe about how "kids today don't know anything about going on an adventure." Personally... I don't endorse this idea. But it makes too much sense and frankly WBD would be stupid not to go for it. Have it out for 2025 for the 40th anniversary.

Disney only gets, what, 25% of that cut? No need to push Avatar 3 back in that case since Christmas 2025 will supposedly be the next Star Wars (the one Damon Lindelof is writing/producing). I'll believe it when I see it. What I think we'll definitely get that Christmas? The DCU Superman reboot that James Gunn will write/direct.

Dropping the same day at Avatar: The Way of Water. Talk about taking a massive dump (and walking away without flushing). And the denials/delusions/meltdown of Johnson would evoke sympathy from me... except he was an egomaniac and a bully to the previous WB regime who greenlit the damn movie in the first place. Tis karma in play.

It wasn't heightened expectations talking but I found The Fabelmans to be... disappointing. By no means bad. I'd even go as far to say it's good and I swear that's not me grading it on a curve because it's my favorite director and this was my most anticipated film this year. But my brother said something very interesting as we were leaving the theater Wednesday night that I initially didn't agree with it. Until it sat on me overnight and I realized he was right on the drive to their place the following afternoon for Thanksgiving. Spielberg shouldn't have directed this. Yes it is the story of his family. But he's too attached and didn't have his usual masterful discipline. Too many moments that were understandably too precious to him that he kept that he would have eliminated - even at the scripting stage - were this about anyone else. Reminds me of when he made Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan. He made those specifically for his mom and dad, and said so upon accepting his Best Director Oscars for both. There was no need in that sense of making this. He already honored them in films that will be loved and studied till the end of time.
