  1. Ya know, we all watch a ton of movies here. We're all gonna be confused by something we loved getting a divisive reaction from time to time. I'm glad you loved it and hope you get to catch it again when it's still on premium screen! It did setup future movies very well (to the point that I wished the ending was actually the beginning of the last act). I think I'll like the next one better. I can't imagine the creatives involved not getting a shot at least at one sequel. They did enough right and the reaction is overall positive. OW DOM is solid too.
  2. Eh. Meh. I'm somewhat of a snob with films and even I disagree. It's not nearly smart enough to lack more action umph. Maybe if the pacing was better? It's good overall don't get me wrong. The human female character's story kinda falls apart when you examine with even a magnifying glass from a Cracker Jack box. The action that's there is really great early and really bland, dull late too. I can see why people are kinda bored with it.
  3. Hmm. I don't know. The kills are fun for sure. It's a very ugly looking movie and not in a good way.
  4. HBC and Giamatti are the only standouts for sure. Roth chewing it up so much surprised he's not literally chewing on shit on set. https://youtu.be/XaZM7V988RE?si=A2ljyUlg_V_Ed6J0
  5. Yeah. I see people get up and return often for a lot of movies. Sometimes ya just gotta go pee, man. Haha.
  6. The score and the look is all him. Set design, costuming, makeup, score is all great. I still think it's maybe the best looking Apes movie. Script us brutal. Marky Mark and Warren as leads also brutal. I'd argue he never really recovered since Superman Lives was halted and scrapped. Sleepy Hollow and, yes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were really good though. Heck, even Big Fish has its moments. But, yeah, otherwise, enormous fall from grace. Alice was especially awful and put the globe on alert that he was finally completely washed.
  7. But the 2001 Apes actually did fine at the box office. Opened with 68.5M DOM. Finished with 181M DOM. Nothing crazy but certainly not bad. Budget was around 100M.
  8. This was fine. Lotta great ideas, all of which are undercooked. Looks great. Another movie in the ongoing trend in which the ending feels it should've been the start of the 3rd act. Proximus was great. Macy was great. Raka was great.
  9. Is anyone gonna see Back to Black? There's no overlap with the Strangers audience. IF could pull some families I guess.
  10. Strong Gunn Guardians/Squad vibes. I love it. Hopefully it's the first proper cosmic Supes take...
  11. This year the strikes pushing back multiple titles is the obvious culprit. We've seen with Dune and Godzilla and even Panda that people will still come out for movies. Proper first weekend of May tent pole would've done considerably better than TFG.
  12. Camped out for those tickets when I was 13. First colossal let down of my life a day later.
  13. The whole vibe of being at festival can sometimes result in a more positive or more negative reaction to a film. It's not abnormal for films received exceeding well or poorly at a festival to have later reactions move closer to the mean.
  14. I wish I could it was... But, I'm all in on Shane Black. Huge fan of his resurgence that started with KKBB. Loved Nice Guys. And, hey, Iron Man 3 is one of my favorite MCU joints. The Predator was rough but I even make excuses for that one! Fall Guy feels a lot like Drew Pearce who has worked with Shane Black was trying to do his best imitation of 90s Shane Black. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. While watching, given the high budget, I even started wondering why they didn't just hire Shane Black to polish it up or rewrite it. Also made me wonder why it wasn't rated R. Some of the action gags in it would've benefitted from having an R rated punchline that movies like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Nice Guys, Hot Fuzz, Tropic Thunder really used well. TFG is more on The Other Guys PG13 level but even that one pushed it closer to R than Fall Guy. All that said, I had a good time with it. Definitely a smile. Heart is absolutely in the right place. Lotta charm. Atomic Blonde even with all its faults is still my favorite by Leitch.
  15. I remember the Fury Road enthusiasm. It was a giddy, euphoric, overwhelming enthusiasm. Never ever got that sense for Fall Guy. Fall Guy felt more like it's better than expected. Heard Tropic Thunder and Nice Guys comps but said comparisons mentioned it wasn't as good either but still very enjoyable.
