    Exactly, which must be why they decided to do it in the first place. Whether it makes much money at all for the studio depends on whether the budget is 225M like Sony is saying or whether it's nearly 300M like rival studios are saying.

    So they expect to take all that time and effort and resources to make a movie so it can barely break even way down the track? Sony didn't set out making MIB3 in the hope that it would make 180M domestically.Hancock made 620M WW four years ago without 3D, of course they were expecting something like 800M WW or they wouldn't have thrown so much money at it.

    For a major tentpole it's pretty normal, often marketing budgets are higher than that.

    The studio is saying 215M or something for MIB3 but word is the budget could actually be closer to 300M, without marketing.http://articles.lati...-black-20120514

    No, it's not but most studios wouldn't be jumping up and down if they spent nearly 400M inclusive of marketing and the film made less than 200M domestically, unless it was making enormous amounts overseas which MIB3 doesn't seem to be.

    How is the possibility of 180M domestically excellent for MIB3?The budget plus marketing is like 375-400M or something.

    I don't think they will release TA2 in December. They broke the OW record at the start of May, they will go for that date again.

    Landau said himself that 2014 would be "a tough date to make"The nail is already in the coffin IMO.

    Lionsgate will probably be happy with it reaching 400M but maybe they could fudge it over SM1. I doubt they would care though.
