  1. Um what? Logan received an Academy Award nomination for its screenplay. I don't think any other superhero movie has received a screenplay nomination. Not even The Dark Knight managed a screenplay nom.
  2. The Peter moments from the most recent Deadpool trailer played very well at my AIW showing. That was easily the best reaction during the 6 or 7 trailers that were shown.
  3. Seems like some people are conflating a movie's gross with a movie's quality. AIW isn't the best film in this weekend's top two, let alone the weekend's top ten where at least three films are better than it. Was it an impressive opening? Yes. Is it a great film? No.
  4. It's too bad a better movie didn't claim the record. AIW is an overlong and mediocre film. Thank goodness for the modern suburban cineplex with so many screens that allowed me to see AIW yesterday afternoon, grab some dinner at a restaurant that shares the same parking lot and then head back to the cinema to see a better film for a nightcap.
  5. The film was pretty meh with about twice as many characters as needed to be in it. The film was also easily 45-60 minutes too long and some of it just seemed repetitive. Worst of all, several cast members seemed like they were bored and were merely completing a contract obligation. Then there was the stupidity with the attempted gauntlet removal scene. Did nobody think to sever his arm? The lack of grief from several characters also defied explanation. That being said, the humor mostly works. Plus there are a couple of solid performances led by a terrific Tom Holland as Spider-Man. As long as he keeps receiving good scripts, he should play Spider-Man for as long as he wants. Olsen was also decent in her role. Also, I hated how none of the original Avengers crumbled at the end, well, apart from Nick Fury. None of the deaths really matter though as I am sure there will be a time rewind in the next movie. 6/10
  6. Well that was a bloated three hours given all of the previews and credits. There were some pockets of entertaining stuff but several cast members seemed to be bored and phoning it in. 6/10 MVP: Holland
  7. Were there any IW and AWIT drive-in double features? That's about the only reason I can explain that absurd increase for AWIT. You'd think Disney would fudge BP instead of AWIT. Or maybe that's just another typo on the BOM site.
  8. Tully is currently at 16 Fresh of 17 reviews at RT (94%) with Theron drawing some praise. If that review score stays high, this might be my most anticipated release for May.
  9. I guess that leaves me as one of the few members remaining who has yet to see it and might still hate it. I have a 3:00 pm ticket on Saturday to see it in an AMC Dolby theater so I will chime in on Saturday evening with my thoughts. I have purposely been avoiding spoilers and reviews so I can judge it fairly. Hopefully it is not as bad as the first two Thor movies or Ultron.
  10. Now that Baumer has chimed in as liking the film, I am almost tempted to go see it this weekend instead of next weekend. We desperately need the voice of someone who didn't like the film and given my general indifference to most comic book and MCU movies, that might just be me. I would almost definitely need to follow it up by seeing something I know I will like so there goes my Saturday it would seem.
  11. So many people around here have no memory of the glorious updates from Nikki. Deadline’s updates have never been the same since she left. They certainly are not anywhere as entertaining.
  12. That’s a -14% change for AQP from Wednesday which is solid, all things considered. It probably caught some AIW overflow. It it is still going to be a rough weekend for all holdovers. It was -46% compared to last Thursday (when it increased over the day before). Some films will certainly see drops of 60% or more with Super Troopers 2 probably closer to -70%.
  13. Rampage lost 15% of its theaters this week. Theater losses now take effect on Thursday evenings instead of Friday due to the Thursday event kick-off for new releases now. Not only that but Rampage dropped from two or three screens to a single screen at many locations (and from three or more to just two). The same is true for A Quiet Place and pretty much all of the holdovers. Anything that is not AIW is down to a single screen at most cineplexes with 6-15 or so screens.
  14. Black Panther had a higher PTA than Rampage did yesterday: $316 vs. $279.
  15. There are days on this forum when people make me rethink my policy against having an ignore list. Some things are simply not funny.
