Not really sure what to say about this that people don't already know. The chemistry between Hemsworth and Thompson works well enough, but everything else falls flat. Really flat.

You're not missing out on anything by choosing to skip this movie. I like the MiB series, but this one will likely be forgotten by most people in less than a year. I enjoyed it slightly more than Dark Phoenix at least.

How about the visuals? They look really sleek in the trailer - and are the first and often only thing the Shay ever cares about.

Even quality wise, this will be the 4th consecutive rotten #1 film of the summer

    Aladdin

    Godzilla

    Pets 2

    MIB

LOL, Aladdin and Pets do NOT belong in this sh!tty list. Especially Aladdin, being the best Disney movie in decades!

Yet you strangely "forgot" to include the superhero Marvel clusterf*cks: Dark Phoenix, Captain Marvel and Endgame.

    A disgusting take. Sickening thoughts.

It is the reality. Your worldview is inherently screwed by being mindf*cked by Pixar since your most impressionable and - let's be frank here - dumb age.

That is why you can not comprehend just HOW Illumination kicked the SH!T out of Pixar, on their own turf - and with movies THREE TIMES less expensive. And they are still doing it, and will keep at it.

That is because not many people outside the US and their narrow sphere of influence care much about the Pixar simulacrum. (They owe their diminishing returns to their first decade of luxury of facing no competition.) While Illumination speak directly to the heart of a person, no matter where he is born.

  4. ...reads thread title...

Really?? I'd be much more worried about Pixar.

Illumination are much better than them, and in much better position than them. Illumination are the perfect tale of animated success. Pixar have been on a downhill for DECADES... They were a thing when there was simply no competition in the 3D field. Now their tired shtick is long obsolete.

Mind you, there are some good Pixar movies - but they are 1 a dozen. And even less so now when they are drowning in the remake cesspool. Not even watching Toy Story 18 and whatever else they may still have.

While Illumination still maintain consistent and close to excellent level of quality and originality. Add to that the beautiful leanness of not only their visuals but also their budgets, and it becomes absurdly clear that they are gonna be the TOP DOG in the field for a very long time.

  5. The Shay is SO glad the Kaiju movies are finally over!! :)

Only one thing left to do - WB cancel Godzilla VS Kong, before they've lost even more money, and become the laughing stock of the entire world.

Kaiju movies CAN be done right - as Pacific Rim showed - but Disney (fuck WB) have to wait a couple of years for these bombs to be forgotten, and to find a really good visionary director, like Del Toro.

Also NEVER again try to adapt Godzilla and the other laughable cardboard monsters from the centuries past. They just can not work - and are not worth it. They should be watched on VCR - as ever.

Love it already, if this strikes a chord, I think it can become the biggest film of 2020.

    The f*ck??

This is just some third tier Pixar, man - pls don't start the "Pika and Godzilla will rule over all" bullsh!t for next year so early...

That said - it looks way better for the Shay than most Pixars this side of Brave. Even if it is disgustingly American-centric again (a terrible recurring sin of Pixar) - at least this time the nauseatingly gooey "life-lessons" for slowpokes will be dressed in a supposedly beautiful and funny fantasy world*, so that I could at least have something to look at. Which I can NOT do with Toy Story 18, because it is stupid dressed in ugly. Nothing to see there.

    * the unicorns were truly hilarious :)

Watched it again. Yeah, it's a very good movie. Will never get the hate.

There's not really hate. If someone really hates it, even without seeing it, that would be a racist/xenophobe case, and these are not that many - at least with this Arab movie.

    It's more like:

    1. Prejudice.

    2. Complicity (letting the crowd decide for you what you do).

    3. Plain old stupidity - and combinations of those 3.

PS: 98% of the people who saw this movie liked it. Most liked it A LOT and would see it again!

So don't miss out, slow guys. Listen to all the people who already saw it.

Ok: Let me phrase this...a moment of suspense:.................It was really good, in fact pretty awesome...i have to say. Easily one of the better Disney live action remakes, up there with TJB, Cinderella, 101 Dalmatians & BATB.

Will Smith, Mena Massoud & Naomi Scott were pretty spot on with their roles. Even the non-talking characters like Abu & the Carpet had their time to shine.

I also think...(and please, don’t laugh at me when i say this)....Marwan Kenzari to my surprise...did more than fairly good Jafar. Not as perfectly great as the original animated counterpart, but still a worthy performance.

So...yeah, i do recommend this to Disney-fans, Aladdin-fans, Guy Ritchie fans and even fantasy/adventure-fans. I can see why it connects to a wide audience and why it’s going to make more money than what the nay-sayers expected. 💁🏻‍♀️

Now, i’m even more excited about how The Lion King will turn out. 🦁

That was a really nice review, and I agree with everything, especially the Kenzari part. Spot on.

Thanks for that, and I hope you and I have just as much fun with future movies - like with this one.

  10. Just saw Aladdin for the FIFTH time, in the biggest IMAX. It is just as fun as the first time, or even more - and I would like to see it at least 5 or 10 MORE times...

    BUT!

I can't tell you how mad I am at this useless nerd-lizard movie that is taking all the big screens tomorrow... 🤬 And for what?? Just to make LESS $ than Aladdin on Aladdin's second weekend, LOL (and then drop like a cursed rock like last Godzilla did)...

Same reason I hated the Marvel soapies this year: both Captain Marvel: the Second Female Avenger and Avengers 18: F*cking Finally!! kept all the biggest screens for a whole f*cking month EACH, destroying the cinema experience for normal non-nerd people... But yeah, at least they made some money, unlike Nerdzilla.

super happy for Will (had to put up with all the mocking of genie even though photoshoot =/= movie look), Naomi (lots of twitter hate cause she didn't check the right boxes) and Mena (ditto). Well done! Success = best revenge :hi5:

Don't forget Guy Ritchie!! He got it all:

    1. best Disney remake ever

    2. his best movie ever (and I ADORE his Sherlock Holmes!)

    3. his career soaring and a very nice meal ticket

And just remember where he was a couple of days ago - at least in the eyes of the Hate Herd (the bigger part of the audience AND CRITICS!, unable to think and analyze - and just stampede-riding the latest hate narrative like mindless herd animals).

Based on commentary here and other places, I'm starting to think it's one of those extremely mediocre movies that people claim to like because the "girlz rool boyz drool" factor is super high. If that's the case, then Disney should've taken the "Maleficent" route and made a Jasmine movie, instead of trying to remake one of the best animated movies of all time.

After "Beauty and the Beast," I wouldn't have been nearly as excited to see such a film, but I would have anticipated it much, much more than an unnecessary live action remake with a reportedly drab titular character and a supposedly horrific rendition of Disney's greatest animated villain.

Someone thread-ban this mofo already, he's spinning out of control and can hurt himself.

    Friendly Shay intervention:

    1. F*CK your animated Aladdin real good.

    2. Go see the real world Aladdin.

    3. Only then you may talk about it.

    4. Animated Aladdin was always a beloved movie for me too, it started my proverbial love for Arabian fantasy.

    5. That is exactly why I wanted to see the new one so much. And the opposite reaction is pretty unhealthy.

    6. On top of all that the new movie is magnificent and works perfectly both as a standalone movie and as compared to the animated one.

This is what I was trying to convey in the weekend thread. But no one gets it.  Its so clear because so many of the critics wrote about the same negative things people were talking about after the trailers came out. They literally focused on those negatives. But on the contrary those aren't even negatives in the movie. Like Will smith is not bad as Genie, on the contrary he's superb and one of the positives of the movie. So how come the critics after watching the movie are saying that he's bad/ or a negative for the movie. Its so clear they were trying to mimic the audience opinion/sentiment that people had after watching the trailers.

Don't worry about the sheep not getting it. I can guarantee their lack of judgment hurts their quality of life just as much as their entertainment. It is good that YOU get it. This will help you further in life.

  14. Some interesting Aladdin-related Shay tidbits:

    1. I'm seeing the movie EVERY night so far. FOUR viewings till now. Seems I was right this movie will easily make TEN viewings. Taking different friends with me. Everyone loves the film of the year!

    2. There is not a SINGLE thing I do not like about this movie. Every new viewing reveals more new details. It is absolutely PACKED with good stuff, as a good adaptation of an animated classic should.

    3. I really like the Jafar actor now! He is actually pretty good. And very well cast! I enjoy his scenes as much as all the others. He even has a talent for comedy, which is rare. From now on I will defend him from anyone! As any other unjustly maligned person or movie, he will now enjoy the Full Shay Protection.

    4. I still cry a lot at 3 or 4 places in the movie, snots and everything. Really kills me. And I laugh out loud 20 times. :)

    5. Can't wait for my girlfriend to come back from abroad (she had to go for a week 😕 ) so that I could share this gem with her. She never saw the animated one, she was too young back then - but she knows how much I love Arabian stories, because she has read my books.
