  1. This from the person who haunted the IM3 OW threads trying to generate some faux panic over the numbers until it became obvious what a hit the film was. Why aren't you posting that po-faced "O woe is we!" crap here? Surely if a $174M OW sent you into a frenzy of crocodile tears, a sub-$70M one should have you crying a damn river.
  2. I hate to say "I told you so," but I told you so. All along I've maintained that STD was being over-predicted here, but most of the time I was assured that it was a monster hit waiting to happen. Just as I expected, it's not a huge flop but it is very disappointing. Next week is when the true meltdown will set in, as FF6 & THIII crash the party. This thing is going to have stumps instead of legs.
  3. And Catwoman, but forgetting her is understandable. (I would cite Electra and Daredevil but they were fairly long ago. DD at least pushed Affleck into directing, so that's something.)
  4. That's okay, but even with the most generous multiplier one can reasonably give it STD isn't going to come near any of the overly-optimistic predictions made here. And it's not going to get a generous multiplier, not with FF6 and THIII waiting in the wings to cut its legs off like Leatherface on a bender.
  5. http://forums.boxoffice.com/index.php?/topic/7474-star-trek-into-darkness-iron-man-3-academy-domestic-op-bails-abandon-ship/ Seems so funny in retrospect, doesn't it? Actually, I was laughing at it from the beginning but the "In" crowd thought it was a happening thing.
  6. Will the Wednesday & Thursday shows count towards STD's weekend total, or will that be broken down separately as studios usually do?
  7. Most fans would agree, but Marvel does have that crazy ass Ike at the helm so who knows what will happen. Seriously, Bob Iger needs to grow a pair and rein that guy in before his insanity ruins Marvel.
  8. Madagascar 3 was a 2012 movie. Firedeep specified that before 2010 Paramount had no >$500M OS films.
  9. Paramount is a dreadful distributor. Marvel's films have rocketed into the box office stratosphere now that they're out from under Paramount's inept thumb. The same may be true for Dreamworks Animation. With Disney distributing them, Marvel's Phase Two films ought to see very good increases over their predecessors. Perhaps Thor & Captain America won't do IM3 numbers but they also won't do as poorly as the first films did because they will have great marketing this go-round.
  10. Some comic book fans were disappointed by Iron Man 3, but many of us loved it. I'm as geeky as they get and probably a bigger Iron Man fan than many of the whiners and I thoroughly enjoyed the film.
  11. Is this some sort of bizarre fantasy thread for people stuck 16 years in the past? Backing out quickly....
  12. I've loved Duhamel since his days on All My Children (an American soap opera for those unfamiliar with it). He's actually a fine actor and won at least one Emmy for his work.
  13. The sub-200M OS is almost a given, but >350 Dom is just barely possible at this point. STD is gonna get slammed good and hard in its second weekend by no less than three major releases, which will cut its legs down to stubs no matter what its OW numbers are. This is true. Trek has never been popular overseas, and the most recent iteration hasn't changed that.
  14. Bucky is only back because of comic book science and one writer's obsession with him. Being frozen and thawed was Cap's purview until Bucky got his needless retcon. There is no way that happend with Peggy, more's the pity. The writers can lean on the suspension of disbelief only so much before the audience starts to heckle.
  15. I'm skipping the entire thread so as to miss the meltdown shit. Anyone actually feeling panicky should take a cyber-Xanax and calm down.
  16. It would be really funny if IM3 managed to whiz past HP8 and take that #4 spot. What would be even funnier is if The Golden Avenger aced The Boy Who Lived by just a few dollars. The meltdowns would be so fun to watch.
  17. Man, this thread is insane. The last time I checked in here was this morning, 60 pages ago. Has anything actually happened or were people talking about fried chicken and TDK/R again?
  18. That's it. The drive-ins pair an older film from the same studio with new releases and each film gets to count the ticket sales in its gross.
  19. Oh, I care. But I recognize the fact that it's the studios that set the criteria for which days get counted in their weekend totals. People like to make predictions (and sometimes bets) but the situation is more or less like the old numbers racket. Gangsters were reliant on the receipt numbers from racetracks to generate the numbers each day, the way we rely on the studios to decide what to count and give us the tally.
  20. Skews them how? Because people here want to play with Friday-Sunday numbers only? I'm sure nobody in the industry cares since what they're looking at is the raw numbers for their films' openings.
  21. Why is is so important to people here to have the Thursday numbers separated? The whole non-controversy makes no sense to me.
  22. I hope that IM3 will hit $180M because that's my longstanding prediction. Unfortunately I made no bets so all I'll get is bragging rights and a quiet sense of joy.
  23. True enough, but consider the fact that Iron Man Three is actually Marvel Studios/Avengers #7. Numbers 8-11 are coming along at a pace of one every few months for the next two years. Who knows how much the series will be raking in by the time TA2 launches almost exactly two years from now.
