  1. I feel like anyone buying tickets isn't all that concerned about the tomatometer
  2. Wicked I can definitely see being a misfire if things don't fall into place right, but it seems bolder to assume that right now than expect it to be the 4-quad holiday hit it's being promoted as
  3. I'm sure there will be disappointments, but maybe there will also be surprises that come in to pick up the slack
  4. That's about where my "non-disappointing" predictions are. I think all of my projections are pretty reasonable given the history of the franchises and the pedigrees, if they don't meet that I can only assume a certain creative failing. I would prefer to not take that as a given until there is concrete evidence indicating such
  5. Or that Barbenheimer would combine for like $960 million?
  6. I suppose these past few months would be the time to cheat. Weak as these next couple months look compared to last year they should still be a lot better than April
  7. Well, Cinemark's still doing ok at least Cinemark Q1 Earnings on Lower Revenue (hollywoodreporter.com)
  8. He does matter, even if it's just marginally. I'm more willing to give this the benefit of the doubt with his apparent sincere enthusiasm for it. I would still not be surprised if it sucks though.
  9. It's hard to see TROS getting that kind of reassessment, feel like everyone just wanted to forget it existed afterwards. Was just bad in a depressing way, not in a "fun to trash" way
  10. April didn't help theaters much but if Civil War and Challengers end up being nice modest successes they'll at least help keep some forms of original auteur movies get greenlit for now. I know everyone's stanning Fall Guy right now but I'm pulling for IF. It truly is an original, filmmaker-driven conception. Hoping my aversion to the trailer is just because of typical kids movie marketing pitfalls and the movie's really a lot better than that.
  11. I'll just say it was probably wise for the director with initials AG not to be on Twitter before his movie released
  12. I mean what was said here that he was defending his movie against wasn't all that different from what a lot of people have said about every previous live action reimagining. Their directors just didn't happen to be actively promoting it on Twitter and presumably either never saw the vitriol or tuned it out. He really didn't "have" to defend it. He chose to. Which is fine and I think was a necessary reminder of the humanity behind these movies, but I don't think we need to go the political angle with this yet.
  13. I think the biggest thing this has going for it is it seems to have a less grim and depressing tone than Dawn/War did. Matt Reeves is a good filmmaker but he's not a feel good one.
  14. If you follow Jenkins' Twitter he's very much a guy who just loves movies, in all their forms. He may have made serious R rated dramas before but he's clearly an unbridled optimist at his core and as enthusiastic about being a team player on a big family franchise IP as he is making grim personal stories about racism and sexual awakening.
  15. I have a love/hate relationship with them. Sometimes interesting stuff is there but also a lot of cynicism and idiocy. Such is the Internet I guess.
  16. I never thought he was doing this just for the paycheck, that troll clearly didn't know him that well if he believed Barry would think this "beneath" him. Barry handled this as well as he could but I hope he has in fact learned that he should resist engaging with hate, otherwise all the trades are gonna write an article about it and blow it all out of proportion.
  17. I skimmed through the first Saturday showtimes for Garfield at the Tinseltown theater, only four sales so far and nothing for the EA screening. But yes I'm sure it'll have a lot of week-of sales and walkups
  18. I did see a surprising amount of single sales looking at IF charts
  19. I just share what Reddit tells me. But like I said I buy that it's benefiting significantly from people just wanting anything to kill time with their kids now, which might also be a factor in IF's seemingly elevated up front demand in the US
  20. I tried looking at the Regals for IF but got rate limited 😄. Guess I'll have to leave that to the professionals
  21. Tickets just went on sale, looks like this is gonna be aiming for a semi-wide count. Two of the multiplexes in my metro are getting it.
  22. Cinemark Cuyahoga Falls - 4 tickets sold Cinemark Tinseltown North Canton - 60 tickets sold Cinemark Bistro North Canton - 8 tickets sold Cinemark Valley View - 23 tickets sold People really want to go to the Tinseltown for this. That is the brightest and shiniest of these theaters, wonder what sort of PLF share to expect.
  23. MPA rating received (PG-13) CARA/MPA Film Ratings Bulletin 5/01/24, IF, The Watchers, Rebel Moon Part 1 Director's Cut & More| Screen-Connections
  24. I do imagine there is some of that desperation for family content at play here, which I don't know will be as pronounced with it opening after IF in the US
