  1. We're over a month removed from the last kids movie so I definitely think that will help this on opening weekend
  2. If the press tour seemed like it was "endless" and "for months" it was because Zendaya had to promote Dune as well
  3. Well it's not like there's much use to it with kids movies anyway
  4. As far as this movie is concerned it's not really what film festival it's screening at that matters so much as it being be more than a month before its domestic wide release. It'll essentially be a very early review embargo lift. If it is a misfire they won't be able to hide it until two days before release like certain other movies might.
  5. I doubt a $150mil OW only because it's opening before the holidays and that $150mil will more likely be spread out over the week. I do think it's more of a 4-quad appeal thing than Sonic and the bomb expectations have an air of wishful thinking to them.
  6. I think some educated pessimism is warranted given we'll officially be in a box office recession in the next couple weeks. But it's hard to draw a line between a bad year and an apocalypse on the internet.
  7. Apparently there's a Steel Magnolias rerelease this weekend too
  8. As things stand I think Mufasa and Sonic could co-exist in the way Wonka/Migration did last year, though they won't have quite the runway in January/February.
  9. I think you do get a bit of a hint of the introspective moodiness in the trailer that has defined Jenkins' indie work, but it largely looks like same ol overdone Disney blockbuster. Still think it should have no problem drawing families for the holiday season.
  10. So were Zimmer/Britell/Pharrell just completely dropped? Disappointed this won't have that wild tandem
  11. Even though Indy did flop there, screening your movie at Cannes does indicate a certain faith in your product however misplaced it might be. Unlike the exhibitors at Cinemacon, critics and audiences at Cannes don't have a vested interest in your movie's success so they're more free to trash it if they feel inclined, but they can also give a more legitimate-looking appraisal and help make promoting the movie easier. They clearly don't intend to just "dump" it.
  12. They really want people to buy tickets today, Regal offering 2500 rewards points
  13. A little less nothing than Cinemacon I remember how much Flash was hyped up last year
  14. Well clearly some Krasinski fanboys here, two people booked Friday evening
  15. That seems like decent tracking for Apes. I think $40-45 mil opening should be the expectation
  16. They are definitely trying to draw attention to it now on the cinemark site, showtimes have a big bold banner and trailer plastered over them
  17. Cinemark still doesn't have it on sale yet so yeah, I imagine anyone's who's already bought a ticket would have to be an abnormally huge Krasinski fan
  18. I definitely put more stock in the Cannes selection than any exhibition or lack thereof at Cinemacon.
  19. Does anyone ever use that comparison in a good way? I don't have high hopes for this but "it looks like AI" has quickly become a very lazy jab.
  20. Just got an ad in theaters for Green Mountain coffee, guess I'll need to brace for that the next two months
  21. I do think the Regal near me is on its last legs, they just reduced prices to $7 for everyone. Cinemark seems like it's right-sized enough to weather this downturn though, and a few theaters near me that closed are now reopening. Dunno about AMC, they're definitely not going down without a fight.
  22. What's with Nope randomly being there at the bottom right
  23. I don't think it's an "overreaction" so much as just pure internet cynicism. If there's any angle you can take to call a movie a failure, people will do it.
  24. No it's more like "I'm looking forward to Fall Guy coming out next week so everyone finally shuts up about it"
