Oh, glad I'm not the only one. I thought this might turn out to be worth the praise it received for maybe about the first 5 minutes. The rest was just a dull, manipulative slog towards a dull, manipulative conclusion. Even Morgan Freeman, when he finally showed up about 45 minutes to the end, couldn't keep me interested in this. I got more entertainment out of that montage of the "real" rescue at the end than I did out of the movie that came before it. D+

Unknown - Nothing I saw this year reached the raw intensity of that movieI also agree with Rio to an extent. I found it fun and wholly satisfying.I'd say Transformers, but I think it's just a matter of how much you're willing to tolerate the Michaelbayness. I kind of know what to expect whenever I see any of his films now and I don't let his indulgences detract from my enjoyment.

DH2, Hanna, Hugo, Super 8, Bridesmaids, Horrible Bosses, Kung Fu Panda 2And I don't think anyone here saw Dolphin Tale, but I found it excruciating. I have no idea why it got such good reviews.

I'd say Warner would be willing to take another chance on him. Iron Giant is now a cult hit and he has a couple $200 million grossers behind him.
-
I'm not sure if Ruben Fleischer is a "name" director anymore after 30 Minutes or Less. He has one hit and one bomb.

TDKR or The Hobbit: Which has a bigger standard to live up to?
AniNate replied to Shawn Robbins's topic in The Speakeasy
But that's the thing, there won't be any pausing or thinking harder with TDKR. Nolan has not done anything yet that could possibly temper expectations there. -
I seriously doubt McMissile would've ever been anything more than a side character. The main reason for Cars 2's existence was Mater's popularity.

But it is from Pixar, so they do. And they're well-known for putting out lackluster trailers; Andrew Stanton even admitted as such recently.
-
I doubt Brave gets pushed back now. They would have to put it in December and I'm not sure it can compete with The Hobbit. And the TV marketing campaign for John Carter has already begun, so there's no way that's getting delayed now.

Let me just say what I do think of those April films:Cold Light of Day - Could be ok, but doesn't sound interesting enough for me to spend money on it i.e. a "decent" movieBullet to the Head - Sounds like a typical mindless Stallone actioner. Not my thingMovie 43 - Sounds like something the filmmakers thought up after a night of binge drinking. I predict an incoherent mess of a movie that thinks it's funnier than it really isLockout - Interesting premise, but I fear it'll give in to typical Besson ultraviolence. Wait and see on this oneSAFATEOTW - This has potential, but probably too indie to reach any theaters near here.Wettest Country - Again, sounds interesting, but I bet it only gets a limited release like The RoadFive-Year Engagement - Apatow movies aren't normally must-sees for me.Nothing in April looks like a "must-see" to me right now like John Carter does, which I've been anticipating ever since it was announced Andrew Stanton was directing.

I don't understand what you're trying to say here. Every film you mentioned in either month is "unproven" and I don't see what makes April so much more promising than March. The four March movies you mentioned all have talented, proven filmmakers behind them so the chances of them being good are all pretty high compared to the April flicks. And IMO, Movie 43 sounds like a huge mess.

Well, in fairness pretty much everything else Lasseter has been involved in has been golden. He's great as a producer, not so much a helmer, at least on his own.
-
My faith in John Lasseter as a director is what's shaken the most after Cars 2 and not so much Pixar the studio. With Toy Story and A Bug's Life he had far more assistance from the braintrust than he did with the Cars franchise, and I think he's been exposed as the weak creative link.
