That SNL skit has zero connection to the film. I feel like that has been an issue with the promo/marketing from the start. They seem confused about how to sell it.

There just doesn’t look like anything strong in May. Apes franchise is well liked but it’s never been outrageously popular. Furiosa is also fairly niche. IF and Garfield might bring in some families but they are hurting each other by being one week apart. -
Saltburn was released in theaters. It just didn’t make much money. (11.4m)

Mte. It’s not like this film would magically make more money with a 20m budget. It’s making the money it was always going to make. So in that regard it’s a fine performance.

Challengers is performing within expectations to me, anybody expecting some huge opening was delusional. It always felt like a good comparison to DWD. It seems like it’s going to make around 70m-80m WW which is right where I was predicting. Maybe it’ll have better legs than DWD but we’ll have to wait and see.

It’s more so the genre (action comedy) rather than just him though. He couldn’t stop Babylon from flopping. I don’t know what genre Wolfs is but it’ll probably struggle if it’s a straight up drama.

Nice to see some positivity up in here. It would be sad if films like this were just dumped on streaming. Never to be heard from again.

Wimbledon did 16m (w/Dunst) and Match Point (w Scarjo) did 23m.

It’s a tennis drama. Not a bad opening for Challengers all things considered. I always thought it might make around 40m Dom (similar to DWD), we’ll see what the legs look like but that’s likely where it’s headed. It’ll probably do very well when it gets to streaming too.

Luca likely got a big paycheck as well with the deal he signed. This stuff adds up. Just last year No Hard Feelings cost 45m.

No one considers that a tennis movie. I don’t recall if there were even any tennis scenes, the main character was just a retired tennis player. lol. It seems like Wimbledon is the one to beat (41m)

With Challengers looking like it might break 20m OW, the MJs are having a good April.

China wasnt a big market for this anyways. Tennis movies have always been tough sells. If this becomes the highest grossing tennis movie ever I would consider that a win.

I think directors/studios will probably still hire him. He’s going to live off that Superman fame forever. It’s like they don’t understand that people like the superhero, first and foremost, the actor who plays is secondary or sometimes doesn’t matter at all. We’ve seen many MCU and DC actors flop once they are outside of the suit.

Horror films don’t really need ‘name’ actors. The GA go for the scares and thrills. The child vampire was the draw here, it just wasn’t a very big draw for whatever reason.

Fall Guy leaning heavily on the Barbieheimer stuff with GoslingBlunt isn’t going to cut it. They need it to be its own event. So marketing does need to get better in that regard especially when press tour starts. I agree that this seems more like a walk up movie rather than big pre sales.
