  1. I just dont think anyone cared about a Machete sequel.. The first one was only a modest hit (26.5 mil). Plus there was better things to see over the weekend (Gravity, Phillips)
  2. Total shock. Especially because thought it had more of a fanbase. I dont know what went wrong with that one.
  3. It depends on the film, people wont flock to any 3d film.Warner Bros cant be too eager.
  4. Staying consistent. Looks like a 40m weekend is locked. I guess i was wrong. lol
  5. Yup. 3d works for certain films when it enhances the viewing experience.
  6. I feel like they just moved it to get away from the Minions project. Having three animation/kids films in July was a mistake this year and they dont want to make the same mistake again. August gives it some breathing room and legs into September.
  7. I didnt say it would fail, obviously it wont. Just that Affleck in the role doesn't make a difference. Movie audiences aren't going to see the movie for him.
  8. SMURFS III pushed back to August 14, 2015. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/?view=changes&p=.htm
  9. Not surprised with Runner, Runner. Hollywood has been trying to make both Affleck and Timberlake movie stars for awhile now and it just isnt happening. Its a dumb move on Affleck's part starring in these fluffy films when he just won an Oscar and seems to finally be taken seriously as a filmmaker. The Batman role will also be a flop, he's lucky that its an ensemble piece not solely dependent on him. The public does not care for either of these two as leading men, as their box office record shows.
  10. American Hustle and Captain Phillips have the potential to be huge hits,
  11. 35 isnt a bad opening at all. I was skeptical that people kept saying Cloudy would break the record just because they were hoping for something exciting to happen in Sept. Remember that this is a sequel and the movie was 4 years ago. The highest i thought it would open would be 42 M. Hotel Transylvania opened with 42.5 million and that has Sandler/Selena Gomez involved. Cloudy should follow the same path except it has no competition from other family films until Nov. so it will have great legs. Easily 130M domestic gross at the minimum. Even Sony had lower expectations, they estimated 30-35M when everyone else was thinking 50M.....like really? It was not that highly anticipated. Cloudy is a modest hit that Sony needed; the box office for Captain Phillips, American Hustle, Monuments Men will end the year on a high for Sony. Since all of them will be Oscar players.
  12. That is some very smart scheduling on Sony's part. Equalizer will easily have 20+ M OW with Denzel's track record. Hotel Transylvania can easily make 40+ OW maybe even break the 50M record in 2015.
  13. Yeah but if you take this year as an example, Despicable Me 2 and Monsters University were mammoth films and totally destroyed Smurfs 2, and Turbo. They should not have released all three of them in July. Too much for families. I will take my cousin to see at most 2 movies yearly but not 3. I dont have that much disposable income and i imagine larger families with 2 or 3 kids feel the same way.
  14. This makes me wonder why the studios bombarded kids with animation films in summer this year. There are literally no movies for kids in Sep/Oct besides Cloudy 2 this year. As a result, Cloudy 2 is gonna have good legs and make well over 100M domestically. But it seems like only Sony and DW are brave enough to release animation films in Sept/Oct. They obviously dont make as much as summer releases but it's not a total risk. Sony: Hotel Translyvania(Sept.28)- 42/148D/347WW Cloudy(Sept.18)- 30/124D/243WW Open Season(Sept 29)- 23/85D/197WW DreamWorks: Shark Tale(Oct 1)-47/160D/367WW Puss in Boots(Oct 28)-34/148D/555WW Antz(Oct 2)-17/91D/172WW
  15. Mortal Instruments. Should not have shown screaming girls at mall tours, that totally turned off movie-goers.
  16. what is this thread even about anymore? we've moved from collins, to hemsworth, now depp and hanks. wtf? lol
  17. They still had Ford and Oldman. Putting an unknown in the lead would not have made an difference to the box office.
  18. True tea. They were definitely trying to promote Liam as a draw for women. He's riding on his last name, and THG and not talent.
  19. Sony will have a better fall/xmas --Cloudy, Carrie, Captain Phillips, American Hustle, Monuments Men should all do good business for them.
