Spurs mishandled his injury and tony Parker called him soft.

People been calling Kawhi a system player forever and as soon he leaves spurs. He looks even better lol

How could they mishandle an injury when he doesn't see the team's doctors? If his knee was so mishandled by the Spurs, how did he have such a great season? All while complaining the Spurs didn't give him stuff he never asked for.

Tony Parker isn't a liar, he has great character. Great guy all around. Big fan of his.

Sixers are most cocky team. Happy raptors took them out even better in that sequence

how do you hate on Kawhi  unless ur spurs fan lol. Dude is so humble

So humble he gave up on his team for a whole year with a "knee" injury then asked to be traded from the team that believed in him and traded him all because he wanted more glory.

Honestly I see this as similar to Iron Man. Solid debut but was mocked by many for not making as much as TDK did. Pokemon Cinematic Universe is happening and the only way to go from here is up. And at least the sequel will not have to compete with the 2nd highest grossing film of all time.

lol what? Iron Man was a massive success from OD and everybody knew that.

I don't have a problem with CBMs making what they do, it's that little else seems to be grabbing people.

If people do start to get tired of superhero movies, I fear cinema as a whole might just go down with them.

At least movie theaters would. Cinema would move exclusively straight to Netflix/Amazon/Hulu/whatever. What a sad that's going to be.

Obviously not now that's for sure, unless Disney buys Nintendo and does it.

I've never been huge into Pokemon, it was never really my thing, but I always felt that a movie version should be its own beast with elements of the various games. Like the hero is trying to be the very best like no one ever was and instead of a Pikachu his main would either be a Squirtle or a Charmander.

I'm still convinced a live action Digimon movie would work better since all the monsters talk and most of the battle sequences are like superhero battles anyway, all good vs evil.

If DP had worked out enough to do a mainline game, the main character's main would probably be Eevee. He would eventually get Squitle/Charmander/Bulbasaur (since they would likely adapt Yellow over Red/Blue).

So people mainly want to to see bigger than life movies at the cinema. Makes sense as you might just as well see anything else comfortably in your home, but a good spectacle requires the big screen.

Pokemon is bigger than life. It's a whole different ecosystems with animals that have special powers that often battle each other.

I see it less because of that and more because the fans are still somewhat bewildered that it's not either a straight adaptation of the original games or the anime.

Also Danny Devito Pikachu > Ryan Reynolds Pikachu.

We'll never know. We're not getting a straight adaptation of the original games or anime.

I don’t think Pokémon has seen it’s potential

movie was based on spin off game with talking pikachu

if they did it about actual mainline games with battling

Would have done a lot more

If you're WB/Legendary, you aren't going to fund a mainline game video game based on DP's box office performance. We will get DP2 with a decreased budget, that will decrease, and then the franchise will be done.

I didn't like Pokémon much but damn,  the inability of Hollywood to create new viable IPs outside of superhero movies is starting to be very concerning ...

Nothing kinda new seems to grab the attention of the masses anymore.

I have to agree with you there. DP was a big chance for a new IP to create some variety but of course, it's not a superhero movie so of course nobody wants to see it in theaters.

To be honest I was considering those more as a finishing (a la Thanos) threat, with Mew as the protagonist in the sequel (the Loki? Ultron?)

I don't know if a Pokemon Cinematic Universe should follow the template of the MCU with it slowly building up to a big threat? I guess I have to see what other movies they plan to do and what the crossover potential is.

If they leave him in Pikachu's body then we'd have a deal...

There are many, many ways they may go from here. Appealing to the nostalgia, maybe Ho-oh or Mew. Obviously everyone knows that the most powerful Pokemon is actually (Mega) Rayquaza, it would be cool to see the been three trio involved in something.

If the plan is to do a whole cinematic universe, do you want a Detective Pikachu movie focusing on (Mega) Raquaza? If it's going to be only Detective Pikachu, sure do whatever you want. But you don't want DP taking all the legendary Pokemon and leaving spin-off titles with nothing. Especially if they decide to do a more....traditional...Pokemon adventure movie.

I liked it, it does make me think what they plan on doing for the sequel which is already being written by 21 jump street writer. Ryan Reynolds is definitely attached, they even talk about all the adventures he can have. I feel like they'll have Mewtwo reappear and say Ryan has to go into Pikachu again for another adventure and BAM Detective Pikachu 2.

Whom do you think will be the big focus of the sequel? I would say the 3 legendary birds and maybe Mew.

At this stage, the script will probably be rewritten like 50 times. Wouldn't be surprised if they have other writers come in and work on the script as well.

  13. Solid B movie. The plot is kinda...wack and weak but the worldbuilding is great. Some of the action scenes work (the Pokemon battles) but others land flat (like the escape from the mountain Pokemon). Nice use of new and old Pokemon (even if I'm not familiar with some of the new Pokemon...must play more Pokemon!). I thought some of the changes they made from the Detective Pikachu video game were bad and some were good.

Honestly, with that script, maybe Michael Bay was the ideal director for this.

is to learn one foreign language not standard at US schools?

Here one is the minimum for the 'lesser' schools, schools preparing for an academic follow up or ... require to learn at least 2 foreign languages

In the US, I took "Spanish" but since Spanish was technically my first language...

I can say that the Spanish they teach is like super basic for the most part and won't really teach you the language. The US doesn't really make a real attempt to make students bilingual even when the option is present.

Note the people cheering for Avatar's demise are cheering the winning of corporate movie making. The monopolization of movies, and the kind of cultural malaise (using 80 year old comics aimed at children) that has fed into the worst of our collective natures (is it unsurprising to anyone else that a movie with a main character whose name is 'Captain America' should be so successful in the Trump Era... I think not).

If there is any good to come from EG beating A it's that people will probably stop disliking A for no reason other than its own success.

Disney owns Avatar. Before that it was Fox. Come on, the success of Avatar was always tied to corporate movie making as well.

Ok I'm going to play nice here.

Why does it feel like, not only has there been mass immigration from Arabic/East Indian countries to North America in the last several years, but also that our culture is slowly conforming to them.

No, Arabic should NOT be taught in schools anywhere in North America. You're here, not there. You want to be a citizen here, learn our official languages fast and conform to OUR society.

I see what you mean; the trailers don't look that bad. I probably meant storytelling rather than filmmaking.

The story they told was fine. The acting was a bit too much and the score could have been more subtle. It's not a great movie, it's not really a bad movie either. It's average. It's too bad Carnahan lost his cool but I could see why: I don't really think the movie got a fair shot by the critics. It's supposed to be a serious dark movie but like if you read some of the criticism it's that the movie is...humorless. Which if that's the intention is not a legit criticism. It's saying that the movie isn't what the critics wanted to see rather than criticizing the movie the filmmakers wanted to make.
