  1. Yeah, I wasn’t really thinking of Shows like Simpsons or SpongeBob because they were mostly culturally relevant for their early seasons. I don’t think there’s going to be much revisiting their modern ones. But I’d say Thrones will be remembered more than South Park.
  2. Probably the closest, have to say though I forgot that was still running. On that note I guess you could say the Simpsons too. But I think both of those shows will be relevant for their seasons over 10 years ago. They’ve died down in popularity since then. You literally stopped before the two best seasons wow (well season 6 is also on par with them). But yeah, there are a few shows on right now that I think will be staples 10-20 years from now. I don’t think it’ll be the niche stuff (which I like) like Twin Peaks, Unbreakable Kimmy, The Good Place, etc.
  3. If somebody can name me one show (that’s currently running) that they think will leave a longer lasting stamp on pop-culture than Thrones I’d like to hear it and legit reasons why. I know it’s edgy to dismiss popular things but it’s a little silly acting so shocked that I said it’ll be the show that’s remembered out of what’s on right now. My post was mainly spinning off of Goffe saying none of these TV Shows will be remembered 10 years down the line
  4. Never watching Mortal Engines or whatever new flop you’re stanning. But not because of this post, just because it’ll likely be inconsequential
  5. People are misinterpreting my post lol, read my response to Han
  6. I’m saying whole way through. There’s not a show still going on right now that id genuinely recommend watching before Thrones. At this point, not seeing Thrones is like not seeing Star Wars, LOTR, Potter, etc. Whether or not any of those things are your absolute favorite or not, they’re all so engrained in pop culture that I’d say they’re essential viewings. If we opened this up to shows that ended within the last 5 years I might put Breaking Bad above it. But even then, I think Thrones has left a larger cultural impact that Breaking Bad. Definitely wasn’t saying it’s the only show on worth watching. Am saying in 10 years people will remember Thrones before black-ish, The Good Place, Handmaid’s Tale, Twin Peaks, Master of None, etc.
  7. I think that’s partially true for a lot of shows. But shows like Breaking Bad, Thrones, Stranger Things, etc. that have been big and memorable breakouts will definitely still resonate with time. Just like drama like Lost, The Sopranos, etc. did
  8. Honestly the only TV Show still going that’s absolutely worth watching all the way through is Game of Thrones. Even if it’s just because it’s deeply rooted in pop-culture more than any show since Lost.
  9. I wasn’t saying one’s better than the other. I was saying they produce different kinds of winners. The genre and style of boffy winners is more varied. Top 25 seems to favor one style over all else. If you’re a huge high-concept genre fan, that’s good for you.
  10. I want to post this BOFFY/All-Time list survey in here again. I am definitely using the results of this survey as a map on how I set up the rules for this year’s BOT All-Time list. So if there’s a rule change that pops up (like no changing your list once you send it in) that you get mad about and you didn’t vote, it’s on you. I will not change anything unless I get ~%60 agreeance from the people who fill out the survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VM35BPC
  11. Honestly, I’m pretty sure we knew before 2017 even started that Dunkirk would win this year. If Interstellar could win 2014, I don’t think Nolan can lose on these lists.
  12. I feel pretty confident in Widows, Roma, First Man, Backseat and If Beale Street Could Talk. That probably means they’re all out.
  13. I mean, I appreciate both systems, as they show different things. An awards type of show tends to award a film a large base can get passionately behind, even if it’s not a consensus pick. A list tends to show what everyone can agree on. The list format can also vary depending on how you weight it. If you give lots of weight to the top, or if you spread it some more.
  14. I honestly think it’s a pretty terrible idea to get people who aren’t actors to play themselves in a movie. Just because you’re playing yourself, doesn’t mean you’re still not playing a character. Even in something that successfully did it, like The Big Sick, only Kumail Nanjiani played himself, and he’s actually an actor. You could also look at This is the End, but the actors play caricatures of themselves. I can’t think of a time where a non-actor played themselves, in a leading role, and did a good job. Especially for something dramatic.
  15. BOFFYS seem to variate each year (I think a mix of a preferential system and mostly the ‘core’ members voting, as we get around 40 ballots instead of 90 cause the winners to be more of passion picks versus consensus picks)
  16. Eh Horror isn’t the same as high-concept/Sci-Fi I think First Man looks like the most obvious winner, given Chazelle got second last year. I think Roma’s the other strongest possibility. Then I’d say Black panther.
  17. I think TI2 has a better chance to win the BOFFY than top 25 list, compare the winners Top 25 2017 - Dunkirk 2016 - Arrival 2015 - Mad Max 2014 - Interstellar 2013 - Gravity 2012 - TDKR BOFFYs 2017 - ?? 2016 - La La Land 2015 - Inside Out 2014 - The Grand Budapest Hotel 2013 - Gravity 2012 - The Master
  18. Past winners Dunkirk Arrival Mad Max Interstellar Gravity TDKR I reckon to fit the trend it’s something like: Infinity War, Annihilation, Black Panther, Roma or First Man Id place a bet on it being First Man (maybe Roma but I think that’s foreign language which will turn off half of the list voters at least). These lists gravitate toward high-concept fanboy films winning it out (which is Nolan’s specialty)
  19. Sad, I put Okja at number 2 to try and help it out. Should have kept my no 2 BR, number 26 hits me almost as bad as Wilderpeople 26!
  20. The Greatest Showman is an equivalent of making a Donald Trump musical in which Trump is show in a squeaky clean light of a guy who gave all of these construction workers jobs and place to fit into society!
  21. I just binged all of “The Good Place” holy crap what???
  22. Want to keep this on the latest page for a little bit to get responses
