Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
The Panda replied to baumer's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
To be fair, his height was a major aspect of the character. Dinklage is interested in Mildred pretty much because he's limited in who's interested him in the town. Now the same type of character could have been written for normal height actor with a few alterations. -
It's pretty amazing how far visual effects have come. I saw a scene from Avatar on TV and I was shocked to notice how dated it looked.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)

Speaking of Dinklage, I really hope when GoT wraps up that he can get some more meaty roles in film. He's honestly one of the best actors in the business, and I'd hate for him to be limited on what roles he can have because of his height. -
Does anyone else think Darkest Hour will disappoint? With the new system and members, movies with lots of love seem to do better than the more generic Oscar bait. The reviews seem to only praise Oldman, which will be good enough for a nomination and maybe a win from him, but I don't see the love for it in any other cat.

I think the last movie I have bought a physical copy for is The Force Awakens? I'll probably get Rogue One at some point too, just so I can have a complete physical media collection.

One of my favorites from this year, so far.

When I saw the Winter Soldier, I ended up between my friend and some random guy. Throughout the movie he'd turn and make comments (I assume to either me or this other couple that clearly weren't with him) about the history of the characters in the comics, or pointing out any reference, or during the end cutscene he said "That's Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, they are blah blah blah". Maybe the reason why I didn't like Winter Soldier didn't have anything to do with the movie itself...

This happened in a showing of either Fences or Manchester by the Sea (can't remember) for me. It's during a part where there's quite a bit of loud profanity. A phone starts ringing, you hear an old dude pick it up and yell, "Hello! No, I'm not saying shit, I'm at a movie, it's the movie. I can't talk right now, I'm in a movie."

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
The Panda replied to baumer's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Three Billboards is dark and humorous look on ideas of mourning, suffering, the justice system and sexual assault. It's crude but in a way that etches in your memory, and scenes that seem like narrative comments on social issues going on right now. It's a timely piece of art, and despite being labeled as a comedy, it's heavily dramatic in its material. It shows glimpses of human decency in a society riddled with issues. McDormand feels like a jaded narrator giving voice to McDonagh's irritation of the state of certain issues in society. The ensemble is impeccable, and McDormand is sensational in this film. Rockwell also gives a striking performance and a solid character arc. I thought it was an interesting way to end it all, as a way of McDonagh having McDormand and Rockwell take Justice into their own hands as a middle finger jester to what's been done about sexual abuse cases in the country. It's definitely a movie I can see grow on me. It's shot beautifully, the score is brooding, and there's a powerful voice given through each character. I need some more time to think on it, but a solid A for now. -
McDormand is a revelation in Three Billboards. She deserves the Oscar.
