I think an Adapted Screenplay nod is its best shot at a nomination given how barren that field is. Although, I personally think it's good enough to be a major player, being a funny book film will be its death sentence.
Dark Phoenix's gross will really depend on its quality and marketing campaign. 200m would be hard, even if it's great, but it could easily drop under 100m.
My overall critic predicts
Get Out takes the most BP wins
Nolan gets the most director wins
Timothee Chalamet gets the most BA wins
Frances McDormand gets the most BAs wins
Dafoe gets the most BSA wins
Janney gets the most BSAs wins
CMBYN gets the most adapted screenplay wins
Three Billboards gets the most OS wins
Deakins gets the most Cinematography wins
I think OS is too packed for Coco to get in. I mean it's always a possibility but it's difficult when there are already 8 movies or so gunning for a slot.
Here's the teaser trailer everyone's (not) been waiting for!
Boasting an impressive track record of matching the BOFFY winner 3/5 times and the Oscar winner 0/5, it's one of the first Local BOT Precursors of the year! It originated as a Blog the first two years before establishing its home here!
Its the most unanticipated, non-event of the year...
Coming December 30th, 2017 to a Speakeasy near you
I may end up applying to Ohio State for a PhD program next year.
Although its program is lower on the ranks than Kansas and OU, and I have connections to those schools. Then again, I'll probably end up applying to 10-14 schools just because of how low acceptance rates are for PhD programs
Hacksaw was a surprise sleeper hit, Darkest Hour doesn't appear to be doing that great. Imitation Game had much better reviews. Not to mention they're widening the demographics.
Theory of Everything is the best comp. Not saying it won't get any noms, but I think it's bait the academy may end up seeing through.
The problem with Oscar Bait movies is when films universally seen as mediocre or merely decent outside of the academy get heavy nominations. So things like Darkest Hour, Extremely Loud, Theory of Everything, Blind Side, American Sniper etc.
Movies that lacked love but got in for various other 'bait' reasons.
