Agreed, Pacific Rim took the concept and played with it to make it cheesy fun, transformers is overly long, boring, and the cheesiness is bad (plus it never fully embraces the cheese)

So if Transformers opens under 90 it's possible Maleficent wins the summer...

I have returned from my Colorado camping trip, I am happy to see I have 101 notifications here to come back to.Sadly it looks like the last two weeks at the BoxOffice have been terrible.

I got an nba ad yesterday asking why I was watching a corny YouTube video instead of the nba finals, it was a science video so I deliberately did not watch the nba finals.

Transformers winning the summer isn't much better than Maleficent doing it.

I don't mean quality wise, it's had great quality, the box office has been terrible though.

Guardians has received a good marketing campaign so far, it has a mass appeal, and after Cap 2 and Mal performed so strong can we really doubt Disney? They are the only studio this year really producing movies that perform normally.

Summer 2011 still had Dark of the Moon and Potter, plus everything performed decently. 2014 is currently the worst summer of the 21st century.

I think Guardians could breakout fairly easily, and Dawn should gross 200m+ (should, this year has been ridiculous so far in terms of underperformers)

Anyone think the lackluster summer might be because of how harsh the winter was? People were so tired of being cooped up inside (that could have boosted winter and spring box office) that once it's warm and sunny they want to be outside. That plus unappealing movies to the GA might be why.

It probably would have opened to Mal's numbers and would be holding a bit better.

Avengers 2 alone will nearly accomplish this.

If the Good Dinosaur and Fast 7 had actually stayed we could have had a decent summer.

Yeah, who would have thought halfway through the year Cap would still have the biggest opening and overall gross.

Disney actually markets their movies so it's possible yet horrific at the same time.

Transformers, Dawn, or Guardians will probably overtake it, but if all of those underperform it's possible Maleficent wins...
