  1. I can agree with that, im just saying Avatar 2 won't have the fresh and new feeling Avatar had, it won't have the curiosity and phenomenon feel that Avatar originally had and so you'll see a successful movie but a good decrease from the first (similar to Empire Strikes Back), like I said Star Wars is the best comparison to this because it broke out for nearly identical reasons. (Although Star Wars was much bigger much more franchiseable than avatar IMO)
  2. Yes, the story connected with the audience, but it's still foolish to think it would have done as well as it did with the story alone, the groundbreaking effects (which were a MAJOR part in the immersive world, and what carried the movie) are the essential reason behind the success. Yes, it takes a good story to connect with the audience, but it was the immersive beautiful world (carried by again the effects and 3D) that carried it. People saw it countless times because it was a the definition of an IMAX/Theater movie, and it was also a good one (and the first to do what it did on it's scale), it's the same reason Star Wars broke out. Yes, the story is important, but for that groundbreaking success it really required something groundbreaking and never seen before for the audiences to connect with and it all ties back to the immersive effects and 3D. It didn't break out because people were all like, "Yeah 3D!!" That's true, but the 3D and VFX is what made its quality and what made it such an event film that you had to see in theaters before it was gone.Avatar was sold on the premise that it was an absolute must to see in cinema for its groundbreaking visuals and immersive world and a good story to go with it, but the story is NOT why I broke out so big. Avatar 2 won't be new or fresh enough in the GA to become the phenomenon that Avatar was, Avatar was something totally new at the time, it will be big (even a possibility of 2b big, which is huge), but don't expect Avatar big, especially if they're retreading old ground with the same villain.
  3. The whole film was great, but the beginning was the best part, agreed.
  4. They put a limit a couple years ago on two noms max per film, so Let it Go is locked, so what would be a likely second? For the First Time in Forever? Love is an Open Door? Or In Summer? Or, despite the song being carried by the story aspect, Do You Want To Build a Snowman?
  5. I mentioned Catching Fire, but you have to realize there is much more room to grow off of 400m (and even then that's ridiculously hard, the release date change and fan base expansion helped) than 700m, Avatar pretty much grossed Despicable Me 2 and Iron Man 3 put together in terms of domestic (and overseas nearly The Avengers and Iron Man 3 put together) , that means something else was a factor to Avatar's success besides just good word of mouth (same with how Titanic was), and for Avatar you can narrow it down to a mix of Cameron making his first film since Titanic for the large opening, and then the revolutionizing special effects and the beginning of the 3D craze (nobody had seen 3D used as anything more than a cheap gimmick before). Literally, one of the only things people were talking about for that movie was how amazing the special effects were, and how you had to see it in the movie theaters. This is one of those cases where Avatar is a special case for all the box office trends, meaning there is a special reason it grossed that much and it wasn't pure luck, and I highly doubt it's repeatable through a sequel.Avatar 2 is good for a large opening thanks to Cameron and good will from Avatar, and if it's any good some good legs (not in Avatar's sense of good legs), it'd also say it's locked for a billion, maybe even 1.5+b, but it won't be hitting 2.5b unless it really does something technically mind blowing (to the point Avatar was) that sends people to theaters for multiple viewings just to see those effects again. It's Cameron so expect anything, but from early word it doesn't sound revolutionizing (and trust me, Fox and Cameron would be screaming that as soon as possible if it were to build hype) to the point Avatar was which means that Titanic style juggernaut isn't likely at all. (Plus again, it's a sequel and sequels with predecessors that huge don't gross as much as their predecessors)
  6. Frozen 9 PM Showing, 2D Audience Size - Completely packed, probably sold out Trailers The LEGO Movie - It got a lot of laughs, people seemed fairly interested, but then again everyone was still filing in last minute Maleficent - It got some whispers and some whines from young kids The Muppets Most Wanted - It got some decent parent reactions The Nut Job - No real reactions except from some laughing kids and parents groaning Film Reaction - Lots of healthy laughter at Olaf, and it got an applause that lasted a good 10 seconds from the majority of the theater, the crowd loved it, and for good reason it was a great film.
  7. I just read on a imdb page all the reactions Wolf is getting, and they are stellar reactions (just twitter, but still stellar) http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000005/thread/222802713
  8. Got back from Frozen, the theater was dead packed, and at the end everybody (or enough to sound like everybody) applauded for a good 10-15 seconds, so very well received from everybody. I personally loved it, I won't give an official score till I write my review but I think it was a good 9-9.5/10, by far the best animated film of the year, the songs were catchy and good, the story was very well done (I think they could have pushed it further at points, but I understand it's a kids animation they couldn't have gone as far as I would have wanted it to), and Let it Go is definitely worth all of the buzz it's been getting it better win best original song or I'm calling the police to report a robbery (bad joke, I know). If I was to rate it with the 90s renaissance films I'd say it wasn't quite Lion King and Beauty and the Beast level, but it was definitely on par with Aladdin and Little Mermaid. Disney's definitely back though.
  9. Guys, this isn't increasing off the first, the first was a unique phenomenon that for huge because it started the whole 3D craze that's died out by now, nobody cares about 3D anymore and this won't be the only (good) 3D movie out, nor the first.Plus, even if catching fire increases from Hunger Games that movie was only at 400m, it had more room to grow. Avatar 2 is going to decrease from the first, plus most people are indifferent for a sequel, also no sequel has become the highest grossing movie of all time, Avatar 2 won't either. (Nor will SW7)It'll be big but not Avatar big (which received a LOT of business from repeat viewing and meet curiosity, people won't be as curious or prone to repeat viewings this time around).
  10. It's WB doing a DC movie (which is led by Goyer and Snyder) of course it'll be terrible.
  11. My favorite scene of the year was the opening scene in The Way Way Back OrrrrrOptimus prime dragging a fucking submarine through Hong Kong and smacking Godzilla in the face with it.
  12. Strangely enough a couple of my friends thought it was awesome, I started to question if I need new friends after that. (Especially since the same one said Django was a bad movie
  13. I had to sit through RIPD because a friend really wanted to see it (and actually liked it somehow), it's terrible, but still not the worst of the year, and that's saying a lot...
  14. Worst of the year? There's been some really bad films this year...
  15. I'm just being honest, inception didn't surprise me at all when I watched it, it was entertaining but nothing more. But then again I saw it because everyone was calling it the best thing since pizza, and so it was really underwhelming.
  16. The next Disney Princess is a mafia member from the 20s.
  17. Speaking of plot twists, Iron Man 3 plot twist >>>> Inception's Plot TwistIron Man 3 7.5/10Inception 7/10
  18. The kid has some real talent, he's just wasting it on crap quality music.
  19. I guess I wasn't expecting Disney to pull a big twist, so it was well played. I saw the Inception twists a mile away and it wasn't mind boggling at all.Inception 7/10Ralph 8.5/10
  20. Inception did not once blow my mind or even render it stifled, WiR's plot twist was actually a little bit of a shocker. Ralph had better action scenes too. 1 for Ralph, 0 Inception
  21. It's a fair comparison, both films rely on heavy plot twists, WiR's plot twists were less predictable than Inception's.
  22. A more random comparison isWiR > InceptionI'm not joking or trolling either, WiR blew my mind more than Inception did (neither blew my mind)
  23. Because sonic is popular.WiR >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> TDKR
