  1. That's true, but to see the second one have such a big decrease from the first similar to Attack of the Clones must have a little bit of a sting to it. Maybe Jackson doesn't care, but if I was a director I wouldn't be all to thrilled to see the movie that I claimed, "Was the favorite one I had made", be performing so badly compared to my other ones in the franchise.
  2. It would pretty much guarantee that Frozen would outgross Smaug by a long shot and show that WOM of TH2 is still lacking.
  3. That's true, but it also had extraordinary word of mouth and was riding on good will from Fellowship. DoS has decent WOM, plus there is a lot of new competition for it, and the family audiences (the biggest demo for the weekend) will flock to Frozen over DoS. I'm not saying it's anywhere close to likely Frozen marks it down, but expect AUJ drop at minimum for Smaug, and Frozen will increase.
  4. Yet Two Towers in that same weekend dropped 21% while everything else increased, and Two Towers had much better word of mouth than The Hobbit. Use an appropriate examples please.
  5. It most likely won't, but im rooting for it to, that would be a huge slap in the face for Jackson.
  6. Every movie besides Jack Reacher and An Unexpected Journey got boosts from the previous weekends, so this is incorrect. Also the year before Mission Impossible GP did not have an increase, Little Fockers did not increase the year Tangled had its increase, etc.
  7. So what chance is there of Frozen doing better than DoS next weekend? Tangled had a 50% increase the weekend after Christmas while AUJ had a 13% drop, and DoS is currently dropping slightly harder than AUJ. Plus, since DoS won't get the family audience (due to Frozen) it will negatively impact Smaug a bit (especially because it was advertised as darker, and thus less family friendly than the first). (For example I saw AUJ trailers on animated movies, but no DoS were on any family films for me)
  8. That's true, I guess I just meant I was just being a bit more favorable to the newbies in mine.
  9. Yeah, I was debating on whether or not it would be right to put him on there, I ended up not in favor of newer talent since that's what I though a breakthrough list should be about.
  10. Post which actors and directors you thought had the biggest breakouts in 2013. "10. Nax Faxon and Jim Rash, Directing - The Way, Way Back These two get a spot on the list for merely just the opening scene of the Way Way Back, it was so subtle, yet also menacing at the same time, and set the melodramatic tone of the entire movie. There was such a fine tonal balance between the water park scenes and the home scenes, and being able to make such an overdone fresh and unique. A very well done movie done, by two actors gone directors, for their directorial debut. 9.Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, Directing and Screenwriting - Frozen Who would have known two newcomers off of Broadway would be able to bring a movie that finally brought Disney back to glory? The writing was hysterical, smart, and almost satirical, and it was directed in such a direction. They were able to encompass that Book of Mormon humor and turn it into a family friendly animation that was incredibly enjoyable by pretty much anyone of any age or gender. 8.Shailene Woodley, Acting - The Spectacular Now Although she was just a supporting role in the film, she was really the soul of the film when I saw it, and did a great job playing the charm of the character, while not giving into the nerdy girl falls in love with a popular guy cliche. She portrayed an extremely realistic character, and was able to stand her own performance wise with Miles Teller despite having half the screen time." 11. That's who I got the idea from, I just expanded it a little bit. Honestly, Common Sense Media should replace the MPAA, they'd do a much better job.
  12. I think the main problem is films getting an R rating because they drop two F-bombs, seriously I was hearing the F word in elementary school and saying it by Middle School, it didn't matter how many cuss words were in a movie because I heard them used in abundance every day. Also, sex is weighed way to heavily upon and violence not heavy enough on, you can have decapitations and such and get away with a PG-13, while a movie that shows a little to much boobs and penis for a little to wrong gets an NC-17 rating. The main problem with changing the rating system is if you make a certain rating restrictive in America it will go the route of NC-17 and pretty much make the rating a death sentence to a movie in all forms. However the current one is highly flawed where if I wanted I could take a 2 year old to go see Saw with me, while a 15 year old wouldn't be allowed to go see American Hustle with a group of friends because it says the F-bomb to much. I'd do something more like a, Red, Yellow, and Green system for each age. A red would mean nobody that age or under could go see the movie, a yellow means the age that could go as long as they are accompanied by an adult, and a green means anybody that age or older could go. These would vary from movie to movie. For example (not all movies would get a red) Django Unchained may get a Red - 13, Yellow - 14-17, and Green - 18 Philomena (a movie Harvey had to do a lot of pulling strings to not get rated R because it had the F-word twice, and barely noticeable) Yellow - 0-11, Green - 12 Frozen A flat green The Wolf of Wall Street Red - 15, Yellow - 16-17, Green - 18 etc.
  13. "American Hustle is a bustling ball of fun and thrill, and a mainstream film that is very refreshing to see in a cinema world that uses an abundance of CGI action to entertain their audience and American Hustle proves you don't need to explosions to be thrilling, you don't need gags to be funny, and you don't need an over the top, unique premise to be smart and original." 14. Brave and Cars 2 sucked, plus they were a good ways after the Wall-E snub.
  15. Yeah, I know Inception wouldn't have gotten in if there were 5 nominees, and it could be because it was a Nolan flick that they felt a bit more suitable nominating. But with the academy you will never see them pander so mainstream that they'd nominate a comic book movie for best picture, if Superman and the Dark Knight couldn't do it, no comic book movie can.
  16. It isn't unheard of for a movie like Inception to get a nod, plus Up got the nod right after that year. Given that Inception and Dark Knight Rises got similar reviews, similar to Up and Toy Story 3 you would think The Dark Knight Rises would get a nomination, but nope 0 (that'll be less than Iron Man 3 by the way). There is no chance that any comic book movie, EVER, will get a Best Picture nod.
  17. You want to know why it was Wall-E that opened the Best Picture nominees up to 10? Up and Toy Story 3 got Oscar noms and The Dark Knight Rises didn't.
  18. I always thought it was obvious that it dropped, and I only ever saw it once.
  19. If American Hustle won the weekend my faith in humanity would be restored. (My theater was packed for AH, but then again there weren't many showings compared to Anchorman or the Hobbit at my theater)
  20. I'm excited for it (I will probably see Banks before it comes out) and then I need to go and see Inside Llewyn Davis, I want to get at least those 3 movies in pretty quickly because I want to make my top 10 list (I'm thinking about doing a top 20 this year). (And it isn't fair to do my top 10 list without seeing the Scorsese and Coen Bros films) I'm thinking about for my blog doing multiple lists like, top 5 villains, top 10 surprises, etc. to buy me a bit of time for Inside Llewyn Davis to open in a theater a little closer to my home. (the closest one is over 30 miles away)
  21. Thank the Lord for David O. Russel, I needed a good movie after sitting through the Hobbit.
  22. My theater for American Hustle was completely packed, nearly as packed as the midnight showing I went to for the Hobbit. It got some good reactions to, a lot of laughs, and the crowd seemed to enjoy it. Plus, there was a great demographic diversity in terms of age and gender.
  23. American Hustle 7:10 showing Audience Size: The theater was packed, nearly 100% full. Trailers - The Monument's Men - Crowd was fairly quiet, but a lot of people were still coming into the theater. Some Movie with Nicki Minaj, the trailer was so forgettable I forgot what it was even called and the audience seemed bored with it too. Her - Got polarizing reactions, some people scoffed at it, others were intrigued, but the only trailer to actually get a reaction. Crowd Reaction to the Film - They were laughing throughout, and many of them seemed fairly engaged in the whole thing, and it got good chatter on the way out. It was very crowd pleasing. I personally really liked the film, i'm not sure if I like it better than Silver Linings Playbook yet, I need to let it sink in.
