  1. I think more people are familiar not just with Kong but also how he lives on an island, falls for the girl, climbs up the Empire State Building. His story in itself is iconic. If you compare it to Godzilla, people know he's a big Japanese reptile who breathes fire but less people are familiar with the specifics of the franchise. I think the 1998 film really had an impact on a lot of 90s kids (and younger) about their idea of the character before the Legendary reboot. Many older Godzilla films being billed as afternoon TV fare probably had a role in that too.
  2. This is an unpopular opinion, but I enjoyed the anime trilogy. A lot more than some of the Toho entries honestly. I found the sci-fi setting to be a breath of fresh air and I love the themes of monsters and society/technology. I think the series gets a little too much flak from its teased Mechagodzilla appearance and the action-filled prequel novels.
  3. Looks like Legendary has post-GvK plans for these characters.
  4. I think what helps make a Godzilla vs Kong matchup special is that it really is a once in a blue moon kind of thing. Sure, BvS and The Avengers were also events but the characters meet up all the time in comics, cartoons, etc. Godzilla & Kong belonging to different companies from different countries means even trying to bring them together is a challenge in itself in the first place.
  5. GDT has so much projects lined up but a Godzilla film by him would be a dream come true.
  6. I read somewhere that staging fights in tropical islands/empty landscapes was much more budget-friendly than building miniature cities for 2 guys to wreck. Makes sense especially when you look at the 70s Godzilla films (with smaller budgets than the 60s films) where the final battles happen in empty plains.
  7. I know trends don't mean much, but this could still be interesting.
  8. I was already excited for this but wow! Plus more daytime Godzilla scenes are always a treat.
  9. And that Netflix straight up offered $250 million for GvK. That would’ve easily covered the whole production budget and provided profits as well.
  10. Pretty interesting though how Skull Island’s main set pieces took place in daylight. I wonder if thats due to ILM being the main VFX vendor for the movie.
  11. I’d be glad if Wingard’s really still attached to the reshoots and not just there for P.R. reasons now while some ghost director takes over. The guy did The Guest & You’re Next, two genre films I really enjoy (very thrilling films I must add). Blair Witch was meh (but was a case of hopelessly trying to be a remake/reboot/sequel) while I’d argue for Death Note to be more problematic in its approach to begin with (with the producers being responsible for past American J-Horror remakes, multiple screenwriters) and less of the blame being on Wingard’s shoulders. So while he’s made some misses in mainstream cinema, his original works are enough to convince me that the man has talent that I’d wanna see translated to Godzilla vs Kong.
  12. In fairness that would be hard to do story-wise..given that Skull Island takes place in the 70's plus his character did get squashed by Kong.
  13. Just wondering, how reliable is this account as a source? Either way, fingers crossed! Edit: interesting tweet..
  14. I dig it! I thought the 2nd one was quite the drop-off from the first so Im pleasantly surprised to see this being presented as as more of a historical action thriller. Looks refreshing to me.
  15. As in scenes seem to have been edited/deleted? Just wondering...any behind-the-scenes stuff/test screening changes you know about this? 🤔
  16. I guess The Great Game as a subtitle seemed pretty vague and not very indicative of a prequel. Also, I hope the thread title gets changed to reflect the current release date.
