Well I don’t know how each movie is going to act exactly, I’m not a prophet. I’ve been following box office since Shrek 2 had its incredible run in 2004. That’s when I really started following the box office. From what I’ve seen movies generally tend to have better legs in the summer than any other season.
Just my opinion though. Doesn’t mean it’s right.
My reasoning? Jurassic World had a worse critical/audience reception than Captain Marvel. Open slightly smaller than Captain Marvel at 5 million dollars(148 mil ow to 153 mil ow). And it will outgross Captain Marvel by about 15 million dollars domestically. I believe we can attribute that to summer movie going season.
Edit: I remember back in 2011, we had a 100 mil+ grosser starting in early May going all the way to Mid August. Every weekend. It was fun to track.
Audiences weren’t ‘meh’ about Captain Marvel. Stop putting words in my mouth. I stick by what I said. Captain Marvel would have done better in the Summer. That’s not really up for debate.
I don’t even know why I’m responding back to you. You have infinitesimal knowledge of how the box office works.
They should’ve pushed back Shazam to December. Seeing how much of a joy it is from early reviews, let it take advantage of the Christmas season like Aquaman did.
Above average? 🤔 It’s outgrossed Thor Ragnarok, Both Guardians movies, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man Homecoming, both Deadpools, and BvS in a little more than 2 weeks. It’s more than just ‘above average’
Damn the Hollywood reporter. They just had a massive spoiler in one of their Us articles. Be aware of their reviews. I was seeing tonight and got completely spoiled.
Little OT: But with Us coming out, Jordan Peele listed Candyman as a game changing horror movie.
FFFFFF that movie. Used to have horrible nightmares bc of that movie.
He’s new, he probably doesn’t get how the box office works exactly.
Yeah, CM isn’t dropping 60% this weekend. It’s keeping most of its premium formats at least another week until Dumbo comes out, followed by Shazam.
