Guardians of the Galaxy OS Thread($768M WW Total )

How ? It is outpacing CATWS in the foreign front taken as a whole for the same markets, at the same point. It means that so far it is on par to reach at least $450M foreign (of CATWS) if the tendency confirms itself during the next weeks which i think it will because of the movie being more family oriented and less violent than CATWS. It will drive adults but also, a lot of families with small kids of both genders. Domestically, it is opening around CATWS in a month where dailies are higher. So it could pull off $250M domestic. This movie is shaping like a $700+M ww baby. At least those are the early tendencies. -

Cap 2 is more geared to an adult audience only and could even be too violent for young kids. I love it a lot but i wouldn't have watched it with a young kid as i am sure many of them, especially little girls could have been turned off by the violence. I haven't seen GOTG yet as it opens on August the 13th in Belgium, but it looks, sounds like the perfect summer movie. A quirky colorfull space opera with weird creatures, full of escapism, heart, humour and lighthearted. That's the perfect family movie during the summer vacay. It has all the ingredients to break out in Europe during that period of the year where everyone is relaxed, people are hollidaying with kids and just want to chill and have a great time with the entire family at the theaters -
Maybe Guardians was a concept that was always meant to open bigger than the Thor and CA concept one. Its uniqueness opens a bigger aspect of the MCU with its cosmic part and that is also of a greater appeal... Not to mention its director passion was very contagious and played a large part into promoting that movie.

Next weekend i think -
How do you know its WOM is nothing special ? - If the drops have been consistently soft despite competition all round (female geered and children greered movies have been released since then with no noticeable negative effects on it so far); - If for 8 weeks in a row it has been able to close in the gap it had between Oz and itself on its opening weekend. THEN, It only means for one, that the size of its target audience is bigger than a lot in here want to acknowledge and that this target loved it to the point of giving it a great wom sustained by a high level of repeating viewings. That's the only explanation wether some like the movie or not. There is just a big size of the audience (doesn't matter their profile, they are as worthy consumers as any other) that loved it and keep on coming back to watch it.
