  1. Her is much better than August: Osage. But I'm happy that Meryl Streep can still attract moviegoers.
  2. Lol all the people who were predicting over 10m for Her. Good movie but it's a very tough sell.
  3. Her up 18% from last weekend with the same number of screens. Excellent.
  4. "Her" is up 11% from last weekend while playing on the same number of screens. I still expect no more than $6m when it goes wide next week but this is a very impressive hold.
  5. American Hustle > Dallas Buyers Club DBC has great performances but it hits all the expected beats from a story like this. And good God that Jennifer Garner character is boring and underwritten.
  6. AH will win Best Picture, Best Actress and probably Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes next week. It's far from doomed.
  7. ‏@NikkiFinke1m Wed Jan 1 Box Office: #3 'Wolf Of Wall St' moves up $5.6M/Cume $47.1M, #4 'American Hustle' $5.1M/$72.6M, #5 'Anchorman 2' $4.7M/$95.4M.
  8. ‏@NikkiFinke1m Wednesday Jan 1 Box Office: Big New Years Day - #1 'Frozen' $8.5M/Cume $271.6M, #2 'Hobbit Smaug' $7.7M/$209.2M.
  9. Tangled is a major reason for Frozen's success. Tangled was a movie that people loved in theatres and loved on DVD, and Frozen is in the same Disney Princess vein. Frozen benefitted from and built on Tangled's success to make even more money. Think of it as The Little Mermaid opening doors for Beauty and the Beast to earn even more money. Without Tangled, Frozen wouldn't have gone anywhere near $300M+.
  10. American Hustle is outperforming The Fighter by a large margin. Where do we think it could end its run? $140m?
  11. Frozen should have no problem hitting $350m but I don't think it will go much higher. While not a Christmas movie, the winter theme/snowman are helping during the holidays.
  12. Wow, so American Hustle has already pulled ahead of Wolf of Wall St. Wolf is just too long and too off-putting for the heartland.
  13. And any word on August: Osage? I found it a little disappointing (the movie peaks after the big dinner fight).
  14. How is Spike Jonze's "Her" doing? Good movie and excellent showcase for the underrated (as an actress, not a sex symbol) Scarlett Johansson. It's not commercial at all.
  15. Can't believe they spent $100M on a very graphic 3-hour movie about some very unscrupulous (though admittedly fun) characters.
  16. The fact that Frozen, a princess movie, will top $300m is really something. Kudos to that snowman for expanding the audience to boys.
  17. American Hustle is doing well despite all the competition and despite the fact that under the star power and glossy ad campaign lies a movie that is not all that commercial.
  18. Wolf of Wall Street is VERY entertaining but a little too long and so loud, so over the top, so excessive it's a bit much at times. I realize that excess is what the movie is about but at times it was draining.
