Yeah, I expected a much larger opening for Rocketman.
Again, it's really amusing how Pikachu and Godzilla were hyped up and Aladdin was put down and frowned upon and then it ended up being the big May movie. Never underestimate the power of Disney and nostalgia. And as many people complain about the designs of the animals, Lion King is going to absolutely destroy everything in its wake.
I love me some Godzilla, but he does appear to appeal to a niche group. I'm kinda not surprised by how its performing. I still see it edging a little over 50 million rather than 45-46 million. And again, Godzilla vs Kong is coming out (unless Warner pulls a Mowgli and gives it to Netflix or dumps it on its own streaming service, or tosses it to another studio) so as long as the filmmakers aren't colossally stupid and give it a cliffhanger ending, they will give it a proper ending. It would be fitting that the Monsterverse era would be short due to Heisei having 7 films and the Millenium era having 6.
Also, neither Kong or Godzilla will win. They'll eventually break off to fight a larger threat, then whoever survives the big final battle with whoever the final boss kaiju is will be the victor.

I dun care what the filmmaker's say, the end result is Kong and Godzilla teaming up.

Sorta wished KOTM was released in 2016.
I am super, super glad that this can be seen as a stand alone and that we have all the big kaiju that matter in this one.

Godzilla OW: 54 million
Dom: 120-130 million
Overseas: 400-450
Global: 580 million
We're still getting Kong vs Godzilla anyway so they better actually not give it a cliffhanger ending if the fuel really is out of the tank.\
Still hoping Godzilla pulls through though.

History shows again and again how Deadline screws up and overpredicts.
SpoilerOooooh nooo, there goes opening week. Oh shit Godzilla! (hopefully not though)
You know, it's also really funny how Aladdin the one many put down or underpredicted ended up having the biggest opening weekend in May. That's a humble pie slice.

Deadline says 24M Friday, which would mean a 60M+ OW, which would be very very good.
But its Deadline so ... well we dont know anything basically
Guess if they're wrong we can say

Looks good, but it could have easily been turned into a Monsters Inc spin-off with some of the creature designs.

lmao it's going to theaters no matter what
I figure that lol, but it might not get the marketing push this one got. We may never get the "We Will Rock You" trailer.

You know, on the off chance KOTM fails, what's going to happen with Kong vs Godzilla.
They're gonna have to release that, right? Or will they sell it to Netflix/Put on its own streaming service?

My remake rankings are
1. The Jungle Book
2. Aladdin
3. Beauty and the Beast
4. Pete's Dragon
5. Cinderella
6. Dumbo
7. Alice in Wonderland
Maleficent and Christopher Robin sorta count, but they're more spin-offs.

Does the Blue Oyster Cult Godzilla cover play during the credits?

I don’t get why people are complaining about RT.
I mean, clearly GP don’t give a shit and showed up, the movie is a success, this is more important than have a 70% or so, 58% isn’t even that bad.
Critics have their personal opinions, they know what they’re talking, no reason to attack just because public disagree. I loved Aladdin, gave it a 7.5/10, but the movie really have some problems and i can see why so many reviewers gave 6/10, that’s normal.
People on movie forums think people care about RT after a few movies with bad reviews flopped or underperformed in the US during 2017.

The best way to promote Kingdom Hearts film franchise is the historical return of Donald, Goofy, and later on Mickey to the Big Screen. Although the budget for that movie I have to imagine would be pretty big considering the mass amount of guest talent they would have to use.
IDK if it'd be live action or something similar to Advent Children but I think it could become a massive success for Disney especially cause of the massive Disney vibe of the historical Disney characters interacting and going to different worlds.
Though they'd probably have to condense to two-three disney world visits and 2 original worlds.
Pretty sure if they end up making it it would almost be an entirely new storyline that contains elements of all the various games and drop the Final Fantasy-esque characters and just focus much more on the Disney characters. Just a guess though.

So biggest question, do they use the same music from the Imax/HBO trailer where Godzilla and Ghidorah face off or is it different music entirely. The score in the Imax trailer made that moment spectacular

Don’t know about live action remake universe but a Kingdom Hearts movie seems like a no brainer
They'd have to HEAVILY streamline that story in order for a movie franchise to work.

In the animated movie, Jafar goes from his original clothes to the sultan attire and back into his old clothes in a span of twenty-forty seconds.

As long as Lion King does over 300 domestic I'm happy, but like others have said, Lion King is literally the most popular of the 90s Disney movies and if any of these Disney remakes could seriously break out and make Earth shattering numbers, it's Lion King.

Aladdin ended up being the underdog of May.

@Yandereprime101189 Yeah, I had gotten the memo already. My memory of The Little Mermaid is clearly not the same as 98% of the people. Rewatch may be necessary.
@baumer I believe you've gotten quoted multiple times over this, but yeah, The Lion King has done a lot to warrant the predictions it's been getting. 780M WW in 1994 money, highest selling home video release of all time for many years, highest grossing 3D re-release of all time DOM (and maybe WW too, it's close between it and Titanic), highest grossing musical play of all time, one of the highest grossing album soundtracks of all time, a pop culture icon where every single song and money shot is well remembered, has been parodied hundreds of times and is still looked at fondly, and the remake trailers nearly broke 24 hour-view records and are the biggest trailers ever for family films by a long shot. Beauty And The Beast and The Jungle Book were never more popular than The Lion King. Hell, no animated movie was ever more popular than The Lion King - even Frozen. No chance it falls below a billion and I'm willing to bet real money on that.
Sorry man, lot of posts when I came home yesterday, didn't see where that happened 😛

Oh, dear fucking Christ.
Why the hell does Disney keep giving this guy a fucking job? Pirates 4 was GODAWFUL. Terrible. And I haven't seen Mary Poppins Returns yet, but most accounts of it aren't highly positive, the film failed to get anywhere near major awards attention after all of the buzz, and it was one of the most overpredicted movies in box office history despite the fact that it literally had EVERYTHING in its wake to be a juggernaut. The only worse choice than him would be Bill Condon again, and even then, the BATB remake was at least better than On Stranger Tides.
You want a Little Mermaid remake, Disney? Get Stephen Chow to do it. He already did a semi-remake of it in 2016 and it was a gigantic hit. It'd do insane business in China. And the guy is known for colorful and hilarious comedy. It's a perfect match. If not him, you could hire James Wan, Gore Verbinski, Andrew Stanton.... there's so many directors with hands-on experience in water-related blockbusters, so why Rob Marshall again? Because Little Mermaid is a musical? Who fucking cares, the Cinderella and Jungle Book remakes weren't musicals either and they were good. And name a single song from The Little Mermaid that isn't Under The Sea. Yeah, that's right, no one can do that. So who cares. Fuck, even re-hiring the original directors, John Musker and Ron Clements, would be a better idea if you're just going for another shot-for-shot remake.
I'd agree with a lot of what you say but.. .
Kiss the Girl
Part of Your World
Poor Unfortunate Souls
Mermaid is well fucking known for its songs.
