  1. Anyone thinking they are about to watch Flash and Aquaman make similar money to THE BATMAN but then move on from the lead actors is crazy.
  2. maybe her staff needed it to perform at a high level and enrich themselves in the process? too many assumptions here
  3. People would feel differently if Chapek had just released Red into theaters.
  4. Not at all. One of the better components of capitalism is that on average, lazy/dumb people/those without integrity are the ones who struggle - but we still have wonderful social safety nets to ensure they largely do not all entirely behind. The hardest-working, most impactful contributors are the ones who excel on average- "the cream rises" because it pretty has to or the bottom line will show it. Very, very, VERY few people reach positions that make them rich - such as studio or division heads- without providing serious value to the company. Primary means of providing value to the company = revenue generating activities, which is the root of employment down the stream. As someone who has seen this from a top level in numerous industries, this is broad principle that 100% holds true. Within corporate strategy, adding top-line revenue first and foremost is goal #1 and understand that employees are giant piece of that puzzle. Very few executive teams view job cuts as means of providing value unless the companies existing revenue simply doesn't support those jobs + there is no meaningful way for the jobs to be cut to provide additional value beyond what they're already providing. In this case, no, it absolutely is not in the best financial interest of a studio to 'kill the people who make their hit movies' because without them....there are no more hit movies, which any Hollywood beancounter will not is a MUCH more expensive move than opting to move on from the people who make the movies in order to save a few bucks. And they NEED hit movies. So they NEED these people. 99% of the time, there are legitimate reasons for moving on these people. Don't let the occasional bad actor blind you from this 100% factually true, undeniable fact. Succumbing to the "corporations are evil as are the executive teams that run them" is simply not helpful or useful position for anyone to take, aside from the fact that it is largely wrong. Most companies are ran by people who understand they mainly succeed financially when they create positive value for their customers or clients, no matter what field they're in, and helping their employees is a primary means to that end. Capitalism, taken in the aggregate, how improved the quality of life for the vast majority of good actors within society at an incredibly fast rate, especially compared to pretty much any other system out there. "The working man" can increase their socioeconomic status at an extraordinarily fast rate within American capitalism if they simply accept the system and work to position themselves correctly within it. I know a number of exceptionally successful immigrants who truly came from nothing in India, Asia, and South America. A former colleague lived in the Societ Union during the mid 1980s through its collapse and had the most unreal stories. Capitalism is straight up incredible compared to what else is out there. Its unfathomable how anyone could ever want something else where creativity and innovation become so stifled. Sure, a little more discipline with military industrial complex would have been nice over the years 🤨🙃 but on the whole its, wonderful. Plus it gives us Hollywood. 😎
  5. Supes has long been due for a reinvention of sorts the likes of which Batman has received a few times already.
  6. Elordi is a highly obvious pick and it would remain shocking if he is not the person chosen. He is an obvious choice given all factors ala Christian Bale in 2003 for Batman or Josh Hartnett in 2003 for Bats/Supes. Checks every box pretty much to a tee. Talent and looks for sure, plus also he is a famous name with a serious social media following.
  7. Hartnett still looks like he is in his early 30s....could be a good comeback vehicle. Just saying...free PR...worth money...
  8. Halle Bailey will make a good Lois Lane opposite Jacob Elordi in Gunns Superman after her star power explodes with this movie.
  9. What backlash there to his Superman rumors...? The Human Torch was before the Creed and Black Panther days. MBJ as Bruce Wayne would be an epic gold mine, be serious, he is a beloved and widely respected actor.
  10. I could be wrong but I really think if they announced Michael B. Jordan as Bruce Wayne in the new DCU, there would be a TON of excitement.
  11. I have ample experience in this area 😂 It is amazing how many people that are just being effective task managers get referred to "what an asshole/bitch". So cannot always take first word.
  12. The shot of her flipping her hair back in slow-mo looks like its a leftover from the 2017 Baywatch film.
  13. Watch her interviews, she does not give off much a "horrible boss" vibe in what I have seen. Bob Chapek did, however.
  14. Obviously for an enormous amount of moviegoers alive today, they will notice when a major characters race changes. Doesn't mean they care enough about it for it to sway their opinion. Remember all the people who avoided The Batman because Catwoman was black? Me neither. If James Gunn announces Michael B. Jordan as Calvin Ellis and Denzel as his Dad in Superman: Legacy, hype will explode. We should not assume and generalize anyone who notices a change in skin/hair/eye color is suddenly discriminating or using that as a basis to lose interest. The lack of a signature moment and song in TLM is obvious from the trailer too, aside from the cheap-looking moment she lays on the rock. Aladdin's trailer had that EPIC NOSTALGIA RUSH when A Whole New World kicked in. B&TB had more novelty factor to it. This feels a bit more run of the mill.
  15. Hot take: they made Ariel way too beautiful. Emma Watson and the other series leads have been good looking people who get dolled up by Hollywood. In this film, it looks like a young Tyra Banks/Beyonce beauty queen swimming around scantily clad. Parents might find it a bit overly sexual, even if it is unintentional. Young girls will look at her and feel inferior by comparison as opposed to the "That could be me/I am just like her!" vibe they usually go for.
  16. This. The movie basically became the blueprint for the 1990s onward for blockbuster film marketing and merchandising. TDK without question had a more serious impact from a critical acclaim perspective (the best picture nominees were changed because of it infamous and widely mocked snubbing), and is in the third tier of historically hyped films along side Avengers, Spider-man 1, 2, and 3, Transformers 2, Matrix Reloaded, Pirates 2, Potter 1 and 8 and Infinity War. As one who remembers 2008 vividly, TDK was widely expected to open to $95-100m as 2008 began. Ledger's horrific death exploded awareness and buzz, and when the reviews broke in late June, everyone was thinking that a Pirates 2 sized $135m massive haul could be realistic. NOBODY was thinking it would top Spidey 3 and reach $158m. The film being such a high-quality product give it insane WOM which ultimately propelled its total grosses to insane heights that NOBODY would have ever predicted. TDK doing $200m more than Spider-man 3 did the year prior? Batman 1989 is on the bubble of tier 2 (Episode 1, ID4, The Dark Knight Rises, and Da Force Awakens) and tier 1 (Endgame & Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi occupy tier 1 of EVERYONE ON EARTH GOES TO SEE). Ghostbusters 2 set the opening weekend 7 days prior to Batmans opening with $29.8m. Batman opens 7 days later with $42.5m. An unimaginable increase in such a short period of time. The quality was obvious not as impressive as TDK and that likely skews long-term sentiment in a heads-up match up vs TDK but no doubt Batman's place in pop culture of 1989 was greater than in 2008.
  17. Of course superhero fatigue is real. THE BATMAN opening to $130m was absurdly low and everyone knows it. Had someone told us all in 2019 that THE BATMAN would open to $130m, finish at like $370m and total about $800m global, everyone would have said that was on the very low end of its potential. What is also real is the curiosity-nostalgia combo factor, like we saw with NWH and TGM. It is seemingly working in favor of FLASH atm. AQUABRO 2....no idea at this point. One thing is for sure with D.C...those "Superman Legacy" (get a better fucking title, WTF is that?) trailers better be DAMN good because there's very little brand equity there. BATMAN on his own is a much bigger brand and we saw how far that carried his film.
