  1. I think this will be sweet but see extremely limited commercial appeal here. "Oh yeah, lets go watch the movie about the invention of nukes!!!!"
  2. I won't be a believe in the commercial potential for this film unless drastically changes. This is First Man with a premiere release date.
  3. Meh. I don't think any upcoming film outgrosses it until James Gunn's Superman reboot.
  4. You pretty much just described a ken doll. Though even a casual observer can tell that Hartnett - and many many many others - is much more "traditionally handsome" than Ryan Gosling as the other poster observed. It really isn't an opinion, he has very few of the traditionally sought facial features. Watching the gif in the tweet above, it's remarkable how much he looks like Josh Brolin's skinny younger brother.
  5. When I try to think of traditionally handsome actors who legit. blew up over the last few decades primarily for their looks, he has to be there. Anyone who was involved in pop culture circa 2001-2003 knows that seemingly every woman aged 14-30 was in love with him as a movie star "leading man", not just an actor on a CW show ala Chad Michael Murray or a side character from a teen comedy ala Ashton Kutcher. Those people are still alive and well, though younger and older crowds try to block out the early 2000s and focus only on 1990s/2008 onwards. Cant believe we haven't had a film with Tommy Lee Jones playing the father of rugged James Brolin and sensitive Josh Hartnett. They all have the same face.
  6. Its funny that this is pretty much my wife's exact reaction too. Gosling is real world "cute" who gets dolled up by Hollywood ala Ben Affleck. He certainly not some traditionally handsome male bone structure king who could be a legit model ala Brad Pitt, Henry Cavill, Matt Bomer, young Rob Lowe/Josh Hartnett/Josh Duhamel w/ the huge cheekbones, chiseled jawlines, piercing eyes, etc etc. Its not hating on Gosling either, it just kinda obvious.
  7. "Why can't china be more like america and just move on from covid?!?!?!?!!"
  8. Superman: Jacob Elordi Lois Lane: someone Lex Luthor: Cillian Murphy Jor-el: Brendan Fraser Perry White: John Goodman Jonathon Kent: Josh Hartnett Martha Kent: Sarah Michelle Gellar
  9. Gosling has a tiny, near non-existent fanbase composed entirely of women who were teens to young adults 18 years ago when THE NOTEBOOK came out and then briefly returned to it 6 years ago with LA LA LAND. Nobody went to see First Man for a reason. Can't believe they didn't cast actual human ken dolls Matt Bomer, Josh Hartnett or even Henry Cavill in this movie in supporting roles.
  10. Remarkable how many people overthought the fundaments here. A GIGANTIC CHUNK of Avatar 1's gross was 3D surcharges. Take away the 3D gimmick and not only does it lose like $150m off the bat from the surcharges, but probably another $200m from people just never go see it period. The 3D gimmick is completely erased & its showing here. Plus all the other well established pop culture relevance points. Takeaway the 3D angle and its obvious Avatar was not even close to as influential as some of the major blockbusters of that time such as THE DARK KNIGHT, INCEPTION, or even TRANSFORMERS. INCEPTION 2 from NOLAN/LEO...now THERE is a megablockbuster sequel that should get made. Legs will be good no doubt.
  11. It's scored are not bad ? People made it out like this was an impending 30% RT disaster.
  12. So will this even get to a $1 billion with those numbers?
  13. Disagree to a point. Pissed Cavill fans will be undermining everything now ala Battinson. The Batman is no doubt a borderline box office disappointment, don't think they didn't make a difference.
  14. I actually think they needed to announce moving on from Cavill ASAP to not let the wrong expectation linger for another second. It is a stupid decision of course, but as soon as said stupid decision was made, they needed to get it out there to begin the acceptance and moving on process.
  15. Gunn has taken an incredible amount of heat over the last 24 hours hence why he is respond on Twitter. He's made a huge mistake and, quite frankly, better be comfortable dealing with these people because they're going anywhere. They're going to rain on the parade of whoever is cast as the next Superman, they're going to be vocal when trailers release, they are going to undermine everything. Gunn and co. clearly have made a massive strategic blunder with their miscalculation of not weighing the backlash heavily enough and it's a shame. They completely blunted the first major piece of positive enthusiasm surrounding Superman in years basically for hubris. "We're not going to please everyone" aka "we're going to piss 75% of the peoples whose support we depend on"
